So the temps are dropping here in Indiana. This is my first winter with my husky Gidget. I know she is a cold weather dog, but how safe is it to leave her outside and at what point/temp should I not leave her out? We normally leave her on the back porch when we go out, she stays inside at night. Thanks!

Let me see if I can find the picture... Found it. It was 7° or so when this pic was taken.

Once the cold weather comes, I can't keep him inside. He has a dog house, only uses it when it is BOTH very, very cold, as in low single digits or colder AND high winds.

Caveat: make sure there is shelter available, somewhere without wind, and water. Otherwise, good Samaritans may you to police. Also, your local/State laws regarding shelter dogs outside. Our local animal control last just laughed when I said I afraid people would report me for s dog outside winter. She rolled her eyes and said He's a husky!

Thanks, that’s kind of what I figured. She always seems perfectly comfortable outside in the mornings when it’s cooler. I also do have plenty of “Good Samaritans” around me so I’ll be aware of that as well.

I remember when we picked up our Aussie from the breeder. She walked us outside to the kennel area where she had put in nice dog houses and concrete pads. I asked her about them and she said, humorously, it was a waste of money. She said she'd come out in freezing temperatures with snow on the ground and find the dogs laying in the snow.... right next to those nice dog houses.

I don't worry about temperature at all with mine and the cold. I do try to keep the deck cleaned off though so that they have the option of getting their feet off the cold ice (we don't get snow much and instead gets ice). I will also use musher's secret on their feet to help keep snow/frost buildup out of their toe hairs and to give a little protection to their paw pads.
