| Jenn, I'm so sorry. I can't imagine what you're going through right now. I agree with what Sara said, but other than that, I can't help much in interpreting anything else. Stay strong and I'll be keeping you and Sierra in my thoughts. |

| Just found this thread. So sorry to hear about this, Jenn! I find it troubling that they couldn't write the report in layman's terms so the rest of us who aren't doctors can understand it ... only adds to the confusion and anxiety.
You guys are in our thoughts. Hoping everything comes out OK. |

| So sorry to hear this. I'd been silently following this thread. Maybe you can schedule some time with the vet on Wednesday before you drop her off to get some of your questions answered? |

| well i asked the doc to send me the report as she broke it down to much and i wanted to know more! from what i can find as long as she takes enough of the mass and nothing is left we will be ok, if she does not take enough and the margin from the mass to the healthy tissue is to thin it can come back, that's when we would want to talk about radiation. and we will not know that info till its sent to the lab and we wait 3-5 days to know. Our vet LOVES Sierra like a member of her family so i know she will be in great care, i just hope she gets it all. since we need to do blood work for this we will also know where her liver levels stand and if they are still high she will do a ultra sound on the liver while she is out to check it, if she sees anything she can go in with a needle and take some samples, she does not want to cut her open in the abs as she will need them to help with the leg. after this news i really hope there is not also something on the liver _________________ |

| Oh my, I am so sorry.
The only advice I can offer is to make sure your vet really knows how to handle these situations and ask if a specialist is recommended at this point. Then, get a second opinion if you feel it may help you.
The closest I have to offer is having a cat with vaccine associated fibrosarcoma. NOTE: Cats and dogs are very different when it comes to cancer/tumors. The type of cancer my cat had only effects 3 or so in 10,000 cats. At times though, I wish I would have had the specialist perform the surgery. I spoke to the specialist after the mass was removed and the confirmed diagnosis came back. The margins in my case were not wide enough even though the initial report came back saying they were wide enough. The specialist essentially showed me even before the tumor came back the the margins should have been much much wider and included more muscle and bone removal. Again, this is not to scare, just if you have any concerns about your vet, I would suggest asking about a specialist now. |

| Jen, my husky #2, Tasha, developed very aggressive cancer on her right foreleg at age nine. It was one of the worse kinds. My vet gave her six months to live. He completed an aggressive surgery that took off the mass and surrounding tissue right to the bone. The next three months were very difficult for Tasha and me, but she did get better eventually. The cancer came back twice more, each time requiring an operation, but nothing was as traumatic as the first one.
We called Tasha "our miracle husky" because she lived until a week short of 14. I want you to know that there is hope. These guys are way stronger than we are! |

| Jenn, I'm so sorry to hear this. Aaron and I have both been thinking about you guys since we first saw this thread, and we're both keeping our fingers crossed that the vet can get it all. _________________ Shadow's Blog Canine Hydrocephalus Support on Facebook "Being the parent of a special-needs pet means living your life constantly poised on the edge of a double-edged sword. Wow! Dizzy and Shadow have the same birthday! We'll be thinking of her and sending good vibes your way. At least it's slow growing and hasn't spread. Those are both great signs! Good luck with the surgery!!! |

| so i called a specialist today and they will call me back about sierra and our options, i sent them the report so they have it before we talk, my vet said she feels good about taking it out but that a specialist might be much more aggressive with the removal. I am staying positive that she will be fine, she is a trooper and will pull through! i will keep you all posted and thank you for keeping us in your thoughts _________________ |

| So we went to see the specialist today, we are going to have them do the surgery for us on the 19th, this wed! it cost a bit more then the vet but we found out today that the mass is above her femur/joint and to get a good margin under the mass they will have to go into the bone some, hopefully the bone created a block for any offshots from the mass on the underside, he has plenty of room on the sides to be aggressive in what he takes, its the underside he is worried about. if after the removal and the test come back that we did not have a good margin the chance of it returning is likely, from what i have read its with in 6months to a yr. we did blood work today to also check her liver, if it has spiked any more since Oct. we will do a ultrasound while she is under to check the liver and make sure nothing is there as well. Ken got approved for a credit card with 15 months no interest and he was approved for just about the amount of this surgery so at least we have that covered now. i just ask that you all keep her in your thoughts and prays on Wed. thanks! _________________ |
