| 'Tis the season for coat blowing it seems. I thought Bode was never going to lose his puppy fur! He did start blowing recently, and it's been quite the experience. He is still not a fan of grooming, so we have to do short daily sessions with the undercoat rake or he gets anxious. So far we have filled up a shopping bag full of hair, and I barely notice a visual difference! We are planning on taking him into a self grooming place (wash and high velocity dryers) to help speed up the process, but it's been so muddy here with the weather, I don't want to go pay to get him washed and then just get super dirty again the next day. So I'm waiting until it gets a little drier to take him in for that! It's also been so muddy in our yard that it's tough for me to groom outside, so we are turning the living room into a winter wonderland daily! Thank god for the Dyson!
I was just browsing around the web, and it's amazing how many sites suggest the FURminator for huskies...but obviously everyone here knows that it is damaging to the undercoat! |

| He's going to look patchy his first time, so don't freak out! I never noticed the Furminator damaging the undercoat. For Tia it was more damaging to the longer guard hairs of the top coat. I was using it one day and happened to notice that guard hairs were getting yanked out, and if I paid real close attention I could feel the tension as they pulled out. I stopped using it immediately. The biggest help for Loki was the high velocity dryer, and the only reason I bought one was because of this site. Good luck with your hair problem. |

| Maybe that's what I meant, the guard hairs, not the undercoat. All I know is that most people on this forum are anti-FURminator.
I'm more worried that he's NOT looking patchy right now...no amount of brushing is seeming to make a dent in the fur! |

| ^ I love that shirt.
Mishka isn't blowing but man he sure is starting to shed bad (living down here in such a hot climate). I see little fur-dust bunnies hanging out in a few corners already. Lol.
I'm sure his first blow is going to be MAJOR though. He's got such thick fur. Ugh. Hahah. _________________ |

| Juneau just started 'blowing' her coat too! I never thought she would start either, lol. I too have never gotten more than a grocery bag full of hair. At one year old, she still tries to bite the brush and get away from me lol she's such a pain. I usually give her a bone or something to keep her occupied. I love my Dyson too! OMG! lol |

| Yuki started blowing her coat the day she turned 9 months old. I, too, thought it would never happen! |

| We took Loki to petsmart for a deshedding brush and shampoo. Our groomer was covered in Loki from head to toe. |

| I'm not sure. I posted last month about how Yuki started blowing her coat.. I was able to pull chunks of fur out of her back legs.. for like two days and she stopped!!! I don't know if she'll ever blow her full coat now lol |

| Sheba is FINALLY letting go of her puppy coat too!! And HOLY COW!! The amount of hair I can get off her with an undercoat rake and my B-Air dryer...is insane. Coat blowing is, as I now know, something you will never be prepared for until it ACTUALLY happens.
As for a time line...it's all different. Some huskies loose the puppy coat early, others are older. Sheba is a little more than a year old and this is her first coat blow. So I don't think there really is a "time". I think it just happens! |

| My Kiska blew her Coat at about nine months, She was super easy, as soon as we noticed it i also had to giver her a bath because she rolled in something nasty at the dog park. One bath and it all came out and was over with, however i don't think my drain will ever recover. My Loki however has been in the process for a month now. I have brushed him, I have a furminator brush and i have used that i have given him a bath but so far we are done with his body, his tail looks kinda funny because it is way thicker than the rest of his coat and his neck area is still shedding. We where beginning to wonder if he was ever going to start because the weather had shifted and he still hadn't. |
