I have noticed that when I take out Cain for a walk he does what I call "attack/prey mode" Its cute but can get rather annoying sometimes, basically when we are walking and he sees another person or dog walk toward us he sees them from about 50 ft and he slows down to stalk them. He sits down and eventually lies on his belly waiting for them. When they get closer enough he pounces! He does it no matter what! I find it funny and just wondering if anyone has a similar experience.

haha yes, Vegeta does this. I'm slowly getting it out of him, I'm teaching him to sit whenever he sees someone (kinda close, so like within 30 feet) and wait for them to either approach or until I give him the "lets go" and we keep walking

Although it can get annoying when I just wanna walk and he sits for every person, I don't want him to run up to someone that doesn't wanna pet him so I have him sit until they approach him.

Yea, 90% of the people want to pet him but there are those few that shy away and walk out of their way to avoid him. So I don't want him to be that dog that jumps on the person that doesn't want to be jumped on.

They just get so darned excited seeing other people.....attention lovers ha

Bode doesn't do this, but another husky at our dog park does. I think it's hilarious. I can see how it would be annoying on walks or in public though.

Kerian does this to Blaze all the time he just walks up to her letting her chase him.. She also does it at the dog park when she wants to play. She does not do it on walks but when she sees someone or another dog she will jump on Blaze wanting to play.

Scarlett doesn't do this on walks (mostly because she is a little social butterfly and loves people attention... her little ears go back almost flat because she is so excited/happy to see people).... she does however do this to our chocolate lab in the house. Mostly when he is playing with a toy or chewing on something... she gets really low to the ground and walks super slow and quiet until she is right in front of him (Charlie is just curious as to what she is doing and is looking at her) and then she pounces for the toy, or slowly takes it away from him (sometimes right out of his mouth - again, making sure to be very slow and gentle about it all) and then runs away.

Very cute in the house but i can see the annoyance when walking.

Both of mine does this all the time.. And I came to understand that not many people like dogs rushing towards them. I met a lady with a golden retriever once. She lost hold of the leash and that dog came bouncing towards us. So Titus pounced at the dog to say hello playfully and guess what the lady said. "Get a muzzle on that dog!" Gee.. what is wrong with these people?? Ever since then, I make them wait before they are allowed to go to someone.

When we are walking i use the command "leave it" if there is another dog. If it is a small dog i say "baby, leave it!" He is learning "baby" means it's not a toy, and not a dog he can play with. He is obsessed with little dogs, they are the same size as his favorite stuffed animal and i've seen how he plays with that lol.

another useful command i use when we're running or my son is biking with him ( with me running next to them) is "on by" this makes him ignore whatever it is and reminds him his focus is on running with the bike or me.

He's learned walks and runs are exersize not sniff-fests

People who freak out when dogs are being dogs ( jumping on each other and biting and growling in play) irritate me. It's a dog not a porcelain doll.

Loki does this too, he is too little to be walked yet, (I need him to have all his shots first) but he constantly stalks Balon and Ruby and it cracks me up!
