2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. PostSubject: Can dogs have panic attacks or something similar?   Can dogs have panic attacks or something similar? EmptyWed Jul 25, 2012 9:10 pm

I tried googling panic attacks in dogs, but I'm not getting any good answers.

The reason I'm asking is that Mya has really odd behavior sometimes. Out of the blue she'll start with the following:

Start pacing and breathing heavy
Trying to get my attention (or hubby's)
Jumping at the front door
Trying to get into Kody's crate (she never does this!)
Goes INTO the shower and lays there
Lays in a corner of our bedroom

It always happens when I'm working from home and hubby's at work so I always thought it was the routine being off (him not being home) and her freaking out. However, she just started doing this a few minutes ago and he's home! She was trying hard to get his attention and he was giving her lots of lovin, but then she started with all of the symptoms above.

She doesn't have to go out (the door to the yard is open), she ate, and went on a 30min walk. I gave her a raw marrow bone to entertain her and she licked it and kept pacing around it. Now she's finally chewing on it, but won't lay down.

This is really odd behavior!!

Hmm, Dakota would do the whole pacing thing when we were at someone else's house but never in ours. I would have chalked it up to being out of the routine as well if it wasn't for the recent event. I hope you get it figured out!

Melissa, this has happened with Delilah! We have to give her Rescue Remedy, the bach flower essences, to get her to calm down.

How often has it happened to her and when did it start? Mya started this maybe 4 months ago or so. So weird!

Delilah started about 3 months ago - when I got a second job. Apparently, it stressed her out. The rescue remedy really helps though and its an all natural holistic remedy.

Embry is a super anxious dog. We use the thundershirt on him whenever he starts pacing, putting his ears back, ect.. He usually immediately calms down and lays on the couch.

Yeah I would call it that way too, because anxiouty (is that the correct word lol), like everything else when it comes to dogs has a reason. When you consider panic attacks like humans have them, they mostly have no reason they just appear of random psychic problems
