| While taking Mishka on a walk tonite, when she squatted to poop, she whined/cried a little and then jumped away, no poop...first I thought it was peeing she couldn't do but she is peeing. Several times after, she'd squat, no more crying, but no poop either, so we cut the walk short and went home. At home she tried again, still no poop, no crying still, but no poop either. How long should I wait to see if she can finally go poop before I take her to the vet? As far as I know, this is *new*, she pooped fine yesterday but I don't know if she pooped at all today as I was home so she had free access in and out of the house. |

| Any indication that she's gotten into anything she shouldn't have. On the one hand a bad case of diarrhea <sp> is a problem but nature will take care of that; on the other a blockage is a *now* problem.
Meant constipation not diarrhea .... not sure where my mind is ....

| No Al, pretty sure there was nothing around here she could have gotten into that'd be bad for her. Last nite she did have a small piece of a rawhide bone (supposed to be the safer kind that splinter apart instead of being swallowed whole in large pieces) so I'm thinking it's likely she could have just swallowed too much of it instead of chewing it, that's my thought anyways. I guess my question then would be is it something that will work itself out or is it just gonna stay where it is. Right now she is sitting a lot, something that's not typical of her. She ate her food tonite, has been drinking water, havnt really noticed her being different but this morning/afternoon, they were both laying by the pool and she got up to sit, the way she is doing now, don't know what that means though. |

| .work day tomorrow, right? The problem I have with rawhide is that if they get too much of it at one time, it can swell and block. I'd be inclined to wait till tomorrow morning and see if she poops; the alternative is a quick vet visit for x-ray/sonogram. what's her stomach feel like - anything that feels too solid? _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

| I do work tomorrow, but I'd take off for this. She does chew the rawhides quickly, and why I don't let her have them very long. Last night though it was a small piece and she was chewing it, but the piece is also gone so I'm not actually sure if it was a chunk she swallowed, or the splintering that it's supposed to do. Al, to be honest, I can feel her stomach but I couldn't tell you whether it's normal or not as it's not something I normally do Her regular vet is closed, that's why I'm not sure if this can wait til tomorrow or not, if not, it's gotta be the emergency vet I take her to. |

| I;m at my limit, I know it can be serious but have no idea how time plays into it. Maybe a quick call to an open emergency vet? _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

| Ok, so I'm back how's that for fast?!!! Haha. Ok, so I never went to the vet, on our (yes, Kohdi was with for moral support ) way to the car, I decided to walk them both down the street first to see one more time if she would poop...she did! It took a little while, and although it was a decent amount, I'd say it wasn't as much as normal but she did indeed poop. However, I do think she will still need to see a vet because she still squeaks a little when squatting, but it seems more to do with when she pees (?), so anyways, I'm a lot relieved but still gonna take her in to her regular vet, hopefully tomorrow if they can make room for us. Thanks so much Al! I went and did searches on this stuff and it sent me immediately into panic mode because of how serious it could be. |

| I'm glad she pooped Keep a can of pure pumpkin in the house, and if they have loose poops or have a hard time pooping it will help move things along. Please give us an update when you see your vet please. |

| Ok, whatever it is is related to her peeing. Twice now she peed by the door, and I was right there to let her out. She's sitting a lot also. She squeaks when she squats to pee too. When I laid down in bed, she came up and laid down next to me, buried her lil head under my arm and fell asleep |

| Sounds like she has a UTI. This time of year with the heat it easy for them to get them. Hope the vet today will get her on the road to mend. _________________ |

| Jenn, if there hadn't been the initial constipation I'd agree with the UTI, sans doubt, it was the constipation that led me toward a blockage of some kind which would <??> possibly present with both problems.
I'm sure Jimmy will let us know when he gets back from the vet - won't you Jimmy?? _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

| I will Al, her appt is in 30 minutes, so I'll know more soon.
She pooped again this morning so I'm thinking if she had any sort of blockage, we are good now. |

| It's entirely possible that the rawhide she'd swallowed caused a minor blockage and digestive juices cleared it up ... completely guessing now though. _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

| Thank you! We are just back from the vet, she checked out Mishka very thoroughly, I'm happy about that. Mishka has a pretty nasty UTI, something about red cells everywhere, white cells everywhere, crystals, blah blah blah. Since it's her first, she's not too concerned but if she has them often, they will do x-rays and stuff to find out why. She doesn't have any sort of blockage . She's on antibiotics for 10 days, then she goes back a week after that. Temperature is normal, heart is good, dr. felt her and everything felt fine, etc. I also had her address a couple other concerns I had, like one of Mishka's front paw pads is like shredded on the end, but I was told it's nothing to worry about, it was hyperkalitosis or something like that where the skin just acts "differently". I mentioned Mishka getting tired what I thought, fairly easily on walks, dr thinks it's the heat but if she still does it when the weather cools down, then to bring her back. I asked about Mishka being over weight and she's fine, a tiny amount of padding but didn't recommend losing less than a couple pounds (Kohdi was absolutely perfect weight wise she said ). I think that's about it! But yeah, a UTI and she was given a pain med for discomfort but I'm having a little trouble figuring out how to get it in the syringe thing, I'll figure it out though. Thanks everyone! I'm thinkin there never really was a blockage, either she didn't have to go, or the squatting in general made it painful for her to go (?) Ah, and she had her anal glands expressed, they were normal, just a small amount of fluid. |

| UTI's can be a pain in the kazoo. My lab just kept having them (though there was a non-medical reason for that) and the first signs were blood in her urine. I finally convinced her that eating things that she wasn't supposed to eat was better for her (and my pocket book)
Glad to hear that Mishka is doing well - or at least it wasn't a blockage, as you found, they're scary - and hope that she continues to improve quickly. Check for a PM from me. _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

| Thanks Al I remember Anuschka only having one in her lifetime, so I hope this one is it for Mishka. I'm surprised her temperature is normal though for having a "nasty UTI" . Yeah, I get the "pocketbook" thing...antibiotics all by themselves were $85, when I was told the total bill I was glad I just got paid, haha. But...they really havnt had any major medical issues so I can't, and won't, complain they're such good pups, even the vet said she was glad I brought Kohdi along, she said they are just so cute together and that Kohdi really livened up the place, lol, that he's such a character Thanks so much Al for your help! |
