| Yep. Looks like your girl is a wooly. Don't be worried about it! Yeah, it's a lot of hair and is higher maintenance than a shorter coat, but it's still beautiful, |

| I think they look just as beautiful. Don't worry there's nothing wrong with long hair except the "extra" work but you can do it |

| Oh, don't get me wrong, they are beautiful. but still. THAT'S A LOT OF HAIR! lol! well, none of her family members are wooly. So should she be? I will post a pic of her mom and her dad in a minute so you can see where she comes from. |

| Even though her parents are not, it is still a genetic mutation and can be recessive and passed on.
ETA: wooly coated huskies tend to get longer fur as they grow and lose their puppy fur. She is most definitely a wooly. She looks to have feathering around her face and ears. A wooly husky is classified as one with excessively longer guard hairs that closely resemble that of a collie.

As stated, you usually do not see many of them because a "wooly" coated husky is a fault in the breed and they are not shown, worked, or bred due to the dangers of a longer coat.

| Some better pics would be nice- from the avitar photo I'd say she's definitely over plush....while this may not be a fault in a pet, it should not be bred nor is it truly conducive to a working dog. |

| Well I can say mom certainly didn't have an appropriate coat. Overly plumy in the rear/tail and around the head/face- she was most likely a carrier of the woolie gene, though she didn't fully display the trait itself. |

| Dad's coat, though it is summer coat does look more appropriate than mom's. |

| Most definitely agree with Lani. Mom is a carrier for the wooly gene as she has a significantly more plush coat and longer, heavier feathering. Dad looks to be of standard coat length, but is could be due to the fact that he seems to have blown his coat in the picture. |

| What do you mean by "inappropriate for the breed"?

| Regardless, your girl is very beautiful! Just be careful with that longer coat. It can get tangles and matted very easily. |

| Lani means that a "woolie" is inappropriate because of the length of coat, it makes it a hazard to work the dog (ice matting, tangled in harness) as well as a huge show fault. It's a mutation in the gene and is not acceptable for the breed because of it's length is detrimental to the dog's health if it were to be a working dog. |

| The link I posted above explains some of why it is a fault. Basically what I just posted.
From my link above.
"Although the Siberian Husky has a double coat (downy soft undercoat and longer guard hairs), the hair should not be excessively long as with the dogs pictured on this page. Long hair is not only a fault in a show dog Siberian, it can be dangerous in a working Siberian. The long hair collects snow, possibly causing irritation and injury. It is also a concern because it takes longer to dry, a dangerous fault in extremely cold weather.
"Wooly" Siberians may look interesting, but they should not be bred as they do not perpetuate the desired Siberian look. We invite you to look at the differences between an appropriate length of coat and the overly long wooly type." |

| The reason it is a fault is mainly 2 reasons, it is not a coat that is conducive to a working Siberian, due to the fact it does tend to collect snow balls rather than whisk the snow away, and it hides the body definition. Deviation from the standard, especially when it takes away from functionality, is inappropriate for the breed and should not be passed on to future generations. However in a pet there is really no such thing as 'inappropriate' as long as the intention is just companionship. |

| Is your red one in your signature picture an inappropriate length? From the picture, she looks just like Luna. |

| She is a puppy, that is a puppy coat- when she blows coat and her adult coat comes in it should return to the more appropriate coat she had when she was 8-10 weeks. |

| In that photo she is 6 months. But the main difference is when she developed this winter coat it was much different from her summer coat, and there are no woolie potentials in her pedigree |
