| Well, Luna's mother has been shown in shows and hasn't been deemed "inappropriate". Nor has Luna ever blown her coat yet. So unless someone specifically ask you if they're dog is "inappropriate" I would suggest you not throw that word around so loosely. Luna is akc registered as are her parents, and grandparents. |

| She doesn't have to be shown, it's easily visible. Read the standard, the tail itself gives it away there is no shape to the rear or tail, the hair is too long and thus inappropriate for the breed- AKC does not automatically equal quality all it means is your dog is of pure lines. |

| Any line can create a woolie - however, woolie is not decided until the full adult coat has grown in. Some coats are more plus, as Lani has stated but it depends on lines. Enya does not have a woolie coat, neither does her sister Kenna (the grey in the picture). Dogs who spend more time out in the cold often take on plushier coats than others because they are compensating for the cold.
Your dog is not a woolie. Your dog has a plush coat, likely from moms side of the lines. It will not change her ability to be a good pet, but could deter racing ability simply because ice getting stuck int eh coat could cause her to freeze. It's for safety reasons that this is not kept in the standard. It does not mean your dog is less than great, it simply means they are out of standard. Just like my female is and so many other dogs. |

| I don't believe Lani ever called Luna "inappropriate." She stated that coating was inappropriate for certain uses of the dog.
The venue, state and kennel club for showing makes a difference as well. It is much easier to title a dog in UKC and often, an all breed judge may over look the plush coating. It is not considered a disqualifying fault, but it is a fault and would be the reason a dog is not put up against other dogs.
AKC registration is not something that signifies a solid dog, although it does help. |

| Well, all I wanted to know was what Luna's coat was considered. I never asked if it was appropriate or inappropriate. And I definitely never asked if she was of quality or not. I have no intentions of showing her now or ever for that matter. I mean what if I posted a picture of my child and someone said her hair is not appropriate for beauty pageants. Luna is my baby.

| I honestly didn't see anything like that occurring? I guess the "woolie" topic can be a heated one for many people. But I didn't think Lani was ever rude about your dog...but that's just my opinion. |

| It was a comment that the coat was not appropriate for the breed, I am sorry you took such great offense, but as I have stated before does not disqualify her as a nice pet but should not be considered as a breeding candidate. And that she is not woolie, but overly plush which though a lesser fault still a fault. You asked what she would be considered and that was my observation- |

| She's fixed. So she couldn't be considered as a breeding candidate any way you look at it. |

| I honestly don't think that any offense was meant here at all. You asked what the coat would be considered and they told you, she has a plush coat. She is gorgeous and obviously a great pet. Lani is very much in the show arena and she knows her stuff. When she was explaining what was inappropriate, she was letting you know why a woolie coat or a plush coat is undesirable to breeders or people who show these dogs. Its all based upon the standard and woolie and plush coats are not part of that standard. She wasn't saying anything was wrong with your dog and complimented her. You asked an honest question she gave an honest answer, no need to get offended. |

| I would say she is only "sorta wooly" meaning upkeep-wise, It could be worse. See picture of my "wooly" husky mal mix below. He got twice yearly "overhauls" where the groomers would fill an entire hefty bag with hair! It was a pain for upkeep, especially cuz wooly hair is like Velcro and seemed to attract every twig and leaf in the county... But he sure was a handsome boy! Enjoy your fluffy girl, she is a beauty! For what it is worth, I am rather partial to woollies. I only picked a more flat coated husky when I got Vixen because I didn't want to spend half the day grooming her, like I did Tim! |
