Today I put him in his crate while I stepped out for a little bit , maybe 40 mins or so,I was just saying previously that he was doing so well in his crate. Well today I come back and he has once again bruised and now bloodied his paws. I'm not sure exactly how he is doing it ,but it but seeing as I care about the little furry guy I don't want him hurting himself like this. Any suggestions and or tips?

Oh my poor baby. Have you tried leaving treats or his fav toy in the crate for him? That's helps with positive association.. Also do you have a crate cover over the crate? A crate with no crate cover can make them feel vulnerable while one with a cover can make it feel more den like.. Sounds like he's having serious anxiety which is normal but hurting himself sounds awful and not normal. Hope everything works out!

Is there anything around the crate the he really likes but is out of reach? Other animals that may be teasingly out of reach? When I crate Bella my cat will sit well out of reach and scold her for HOURS. He could be trying to get at something and that's why he's bloodying his paws.

His kennel is in the semi empty guest room, and he sleeps well in there at night and the past few days besides a minor incident last week where he just bruised his paws all seemed fine. Idk what could make him want out so bad that he would hurt himself. His paws were pretty red and he has little bloody bruises on two of his toes. I know he usually barks a bit when he wants out but that's as far as it usually goes. He settles down not too long after and I made sure to take him out to go to the rest room before I put him in there. He had to have a bath to get the blood out of his fur.

My Dalmatian did that when i left, but i also used her kennel for punishment and eventually learned i should've never done that. With rogue, she has a time out spot, not her kennel for punishment. What also helped Bella was getting a big pet carrier not a wire kennel.

Do you have a plastic pad between him and the bottom, or anything at all? One of the wires might have rusted a bit and be sharp now. I know Bella whips around quickly whenever my cat walks past her crate when I get home and she pulls at the gate so check those areas. Move the crate to a different part of the room and see if the behavoir persists. Maybe a piece of the floor smells tasty or a piece of kibble is stuck between the mat and the bottom of the crate?
