Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! | Lately I've been trying to work with Koda on areas I feel he can improve on, and responding to commands outside or around other people or dogs is something we definitely struggle with. He gets entirely too excited around them and will all but ignore me unless I give correction commands ("Koda, stop" or "Ah-ah!" work perfectly; "Koda, sit" works majority of time). Having a problem with the jumping when meeting women, who 9/10 use baby voices when they see him, and when I correct him say "It's okay, I love dogs!" -_____-. That I can fix on my own, but my main issue is this: when we go over commands he already knows outside, he rarely looks at me or will NOT accept treats whatsoever when he does complete the command. These are the same treats I use in the house that he readily devours, but will NOT touch outside. In the house, he obeys my every command during training, looks me in the eyes when I give "Watch Me" command, but when I give the same one outside it's rare that he ever does.
I've been making him do "Watch Me" before we do things during our walk: After I close/lock the door, before we begin the walk, when I tell him to sit before he goes to pee on tree or bush of choice, and after he's finished using the bathroom altogether before we continue our walk. With this strategy, I do have to wait a considerable amount of time for him to do it though, and it seems to be getting better but I'm sure there's a better method out there. I've very recently decided to begin training him outside of my door to the apartment to get him used to hearing distractions but focusing on me, and once he gets this down, work on seeing distractions and focusing on me.
Oh! Also, his attention is completely fixated on other dogs should he see them, and I generally have him sit, move in between his line of sight, or turn him around until he focuses back on me. When they get in close proximity, his hackles stand up and he anxiously whines at most, and depending on if the dog growls first he may do the same later. I want to get him used to being around other dogs without being crazy or coming off as aggressive.
Any tips or pointers? |

| Try finding a higher value treat for him when your outside. Lucian will ignore me all together unless I have something he really wants. He'll listen fine in the house though. You just have to find something that means more to him than the distractions do. |

| I too use extra high value treats, like a bag of boiled chicken cubes or homemade jerky or these grain free cheese heart things. We've had varied success with this though, so I can't wait to see what the other members say. Good topic |
