| Subject: TOTW is out BB or EVO? Mon Aug 20, 2012 6:51 pm | |
| Hey everyone! Long time lurker but this is my first post. I have a feeding question and figured where better to ask then here. My girl just turned a year old july 27th. From when I got her when she was a little puppy untill then I fed her biljac large breed puppy food. Well at a year I wanted to change foods for her. I got her taste of the wild (I think red meat? With the bison on the front) and she is not a fan of it. Right before that thought she started to shed really bad. Once she shed all of her undercoat I noticed she looked very skinny! She is a red husky and always has a very soft fluffy coat. My ex gf bought one of her siblings at the time that was a black husky and she always had more of a coarse not very fluffy coat. So I want to get her something that's grain free and put some meat on her. Its between blue buffalo or evo. And if I go evo red meat or herion and salmon? I'm not worried about price as I can get an amazing deal on both and the evo will only cost me 5 to 10 bucks more then the BB. It seamed everyone loved evo and then they got sold to P&G from what I read and all the sudden people are skeptical. Any help would be great! Thanks chris |

| I personally feed taste of the wild and Keeonah goes nuts for it. But i feed her the wetlands (duck), and pacific (salmon) variety. They aren't wolves, but I think the appetite is similar. I would maybe suggest getting very small sample bags of several flavors/brands, before buying a 30lb bag that may not sit well with her. |

| Wow I never had an issue like that with TOTW. I had bad experiences with BB. Maggie got sick off of their wilderness one. EVO maggie wouldn't touch! Oh and also how long after you switch did you see these issues? Most dogs it takes a week or 2 to get used to new food!
She was just a year? I think that is why maggie first blew her coat. has she actually been eating it? Bison is maggie's least favorite. I prefer the salmon or duck one like Sean said! |

| I don't think the food was a cause for her to shead her whole undercoat, but once she did she ust looked very thing (all the fur covered it before). She never has been a huge eater but the totw she didn't like at all. And let's put it like this for the first time I get the big bag of evo or bb it will be the price of a really small bag. |

| I would go with BB wilderness before I go with EVO but that's my argument. Make sure it is the wilderness one because that is grain-free. Also how skinny we talking, like bones showing? |

| I had Kale on Evo Herring and Salmon before I took him completely off kibble. He did great on it. |

| Mine were on Wilderness Salmon and Duck for a while and they did great.
Don't make her picky. Put her on Wilderness and make her eat it. If she doesn't eat it after 15 minutes, pick it up and give it to her later. She will eat. |

| No not bones and ribs showing like you would see a stray dog running the street. Ust her hip area and mid section infront of her hips (what id call her waist) is very thin. Then again she over all is still a lot smaller then what I thought she would be. I just heard evo had high protien so I figured that would be good. For everyone that either say bb wilderness or evo. Can you give your reason why you picked that why you didn't pick the other and what expierence you've had with either. She is a very happy puppy and has tons of energy I just think she needs to bulk up some. Also I'm trying to keep her from being picky but it isn't easy I still live at home and my family has a pomeranian (sp) and a yorkie and they both are spoiled and they ever need to be hand fed at times. Yes very sad I know but that's what my mom and sister have got them in the habbit of... how a dog should be raised and how my family raised them are totall opposites and I do everything in my power not to let it rub off on meeka. More reason I need to buy my own house asap! Lol |

| I wont feed evo because its owned by p& g... just personal preference.
Wilderness was great with ours. No itching, normal poops and they really liked it. When I tried to switch back to totw and add it to our rotation, Delilah refused to eat it and picked out the wilderness kibbles because she liked them lol |

| If she's only a year old, she may still fill out. Huskies are a lean breed, so if she is thin in the waist, and now showing bones through whatever is left of her coat, I think she's OK. If you're starting to see bones through her coat, you may want to put on a couple of pounds.
What you feed is really up to you, but if you find that she is not wanting to eat a particular brand of kibble, even after picking up her bowl and not feeding until the next meal, you don't want to keep doing it if she doesn't eventually eat. Especially if you have a concern of her weight.
Whatever you are wanting to switch her, maybe try adding a little warm water and letting it soak into the kibble to soften it up a little. This will also make the smell of the kibble a little stronger, hoping it will entice her a little more to eat. _________________ |

| I was always a huge fan of Evo until they sold out. I knew after the buy out that things would go south as far as quality so I stopped buying Evo as soon as the buy out was announced. I have sensitive dogs and knew I wanted to avoid stomach upset from the lower quality that was inevitable.
I would hands down feed BB Wilderness over Evo any day of the week. I have had an issue with a bad bag of Wilderness in the past but gave them another shot and have not had another issue to date. Keep in mind I don't feed kibble exclusively or very much for that matter as I feed quite a wide variety including raw, freeze-dried/dehydrated raw, wet, and some kibble.
What formula you feed will depend on what your dog does well on, however I always recommend a rotation of different formulas so as to prevent food allergies, boredom, and ensure they are not lacking nutritionally. If weight is a concern, beef and lamb based foods will put on more weight than lighter foods based on fish, turkey, or chicken. Again though, go with what your dog does best on. My sibe cannot tolerate beef or fish based kibble, but he does great on chicken, turkey, lamb, venison, pork, duck, and rabbit based kibbles just as an example. Back when I fed Evo my sibe could only tolerate the turkey/chicken formula. On BB Wilderness he does well on both the turkey/chicken formula and the duck formula. _________________ |
