| I got my mom to switch Nunya from Purina to Taste of the Wild, but I have one concern. I thought sweet potatoes weren't good for dogs, and this ingredient is higher up on the list? Or is it only bad if it's something the dog doesn't react well to? We took our shepherd to a jin shin jyutsu class and the teacher was very adamant that sweet potatoes "block energy flows in a dog's body" and are just dad for dogs in general. I don't really follow that energy stuff, but I do believe that certain pressure points can be calming through the release of hormones in the body. I heard that sweet potatoes weren't good somewhere else too, but I can't remember where.

| I've only read sweet potatoes are good for dogs, except maybe raw. TOTW is a good kibble.

"The fifth ingredient lists sweet potato. Sweet potatoes are a good source of complex carbohydrates in a dog food. They are naturally rich in fiber, beta carotene and other healthy nutrients." _________________ -Sara |

| I've only heard that sweet potatoes in excess CAN cause hyperactivity in some dogs because they are full of natural sugar. I think that was in regards to feeding them too many dried sweet potato chewy strips. Hey, there's "hyper" and then there's "husky-hyper"... what's one little sweet potato gonna hurt... |

| I believe in energies and have studied chakras extensively, and never heard of a "super food" blocking energy. |

| The plain jane "white potatoes" are the ones not good for dogs. They have a very difficult time trying to digest them.
Before I was aware of that Mylo, had some left over cooked ones I made with a meal. They must have set in his stomach like rocks and 3 days later threw them up. |

| Taste of the wild is a good food. Sweet potatoes are okay for dogs. I feed maggie taste of the wild. She has been picky lately so she gets solid gold wolf king. |

| Okay, thanks guys! The lady said that both sweet and regular are bad, and my mom brought it up to me after she brought the food home, so I just wanted to double check. I'll remember to not let him have white potatoes. Our dogs have always been pre-washers and I don't want that to sit bad with him >__> We've never had a problem with it with our other dogs, but now that I know there's no point in chancing it!
That's a very good point SabakaMom! haha |

| In moderation both sweet and white are fine. Sweet being preferable to white definitely. For dogs on certain restricted diets sweet potato is something you might want to avoid (like on a cancer starving diet for example) but for the average healthy dog sweet potato is quite good. _________________ |

| As far as I'm aware sweet potato is ok. A little white potato is ok but don't over do it.. I feed a diffirent food altogether anyway as well as some raw food so I couldn't overly comment on it but I do know that TOTW is a good food as is Orjen. |

| Is it necessary to slowly change his food if we're switching to a different flavor from the same brand? |

| If you normally switch slowly then it would be wise to continue to do so within a brand as well. Just because you're sticking within a brand that doesn't mean the ingredients are the same. Quite the contrary, the whole point of rotation is to introduce new and different ingredients. The point behind switching gradually is giving your dogs stomach time to adjust to the new food whether it's the same brand or not. _________________ |

| I used to Feed Kya Taste of Wild, but switched her to solid gold wolf cub (she is a year and a half almost, but she has way too much energy and needs the extra fat) and she has done much better. Even my poms like it lol. Taste of the Wild sat heavy in her and made her almost lathargic. |

maggie is fed solid gold wolf king! Isn't it amazing! She gets wet food also at night, so I buy their wet food. They are actually cheaper at the feed store than TOTW! |

| Okay, I'll make sure it gets switched then.
On a side not, one of the cats eats Nunya's food straight out of his bowl! haha |

| I feed Chubby Taste of the Wild....he does very good on it. I also give him fresh sweet potatoes & carrots & green beans & simmered boneless chicken thigh in broth. I've read loads of threads about healthy lifestyles for dogs & sweet potatoes were always listed as very good for them. |

| I never thought of asking for samples !!! I just contacted them - thanks for that tip !!
I have my 3 month old on TOTW puppy formula. She loves it so much that she doesn't even chew it. She finishes it in less than a minute, and then of course gives herself the hiccups. Since their original formula was for all dogs, I am thinking of changing to the original.
Anyone have any advice if that is not something I should do? I assume the size of food in the adult formula is bigger and that may help her to slow down her eating and actually CHEW ! |

Our male puppy, Cato, wouldn't chew any kibble. Period. Now that he is on raw he actually learned how to chew. Some dogs are just gulpers. I don't think kibble size will help because it didn't help Cato. |
