Subject: Is this normal puppy play? :) Sun Jul 08, 2012 10:59 pm
Hey all.
So Thor's been with us a few days now, and I took some video of him playing with our elder dog Maddie, just curious if this is normal play? This will last for about 2-3 hours and always super rough to start with (the occasional yelp from Thor when she's too rough) if all is well how long will it last? Because poor Maddie is having a hard time getting her energy back for the next day of play, and if she doesn't want too, Thor will just throw his rear at Maddie until she gets annoyed enough to get up lol....
I think Maddie just wants to mother him, she keeps trying to nibble or 'flea' his back and ears but he just wants to eat her face She has never had a litter of her own and is fixed so we're not sure why she wants to do this so much, they can't just lay next to each other, she has to be on him, and she really like to pull him close under her jaw (hold him in a neck hug sort of?)
PS. someone on my facebook commented that his eyes are "Too dark to be a husky" Pshh, if he isn't a husky then jeez! he must be a pink rhinoceros! I love his mask

Oh, don't you know? ALL huskies have to have blue eyes...
But seriously, he is freaking adorable. I can't really comment all that much on if it's "normal" play, but it seems pretty harmless to me, I wouldn't worry about it. But since it seems to stress your other dog energy wise, you might think of finding him a playmate (a friend's dog?) or a dog park so he can get some of that rough play out with younger dogs more his energy level (once he has had all of his shots).

From what I saw, it looks normal to me. Looks like play.

Makes me laugh every time!
Yes he is getting his last set of shots on the 31st, so the poor girl has near a whole month of this torture! We have a colourful plastic pen he goes in if it just gets too much so they can still be out with eachother, just so she can sleep in peace, otherwise he's just inside sleeping on the floorboards
He is very adorable I must admit when he does something naughty and he looks at you with those eyes, and the 'evil eyebrows' he has, it's hard to stay mad!

Our pup has those "evil eyebrows" too. We haven't picked him up yet (only 1.5 more weeks!) but I know that his just going to melt our hearts with his face...

He is sooooo cute.. kinda looks like my Noah when he was smaller...Noah plays just like that when I take him to the dog park!! And, if no one wants to chase him.. he will egg them on and egg them on until someone gives in and then he runs himself into a tizzy! He is very, very cute.. Good luck!

I've had people tell me that it must not be a pure bred husky because his eyes are not blue...are you serious? My mom even argued with me for a little...how silly
But the play looks normal and he's quiet adorable

Adorable he is, and perfectly normal play, you should see my 1 year old Lab and 5 month old Balon have at it. Looks visicous, yet when they are done, they are right next to each other sleeping lol.

its all normal, sooooo do you plan on getting him a husky brother or sister? your poor girl is only going to get picked on more as he gets older. or you find ways to wear Thor out (doggie day care, play meet ups, dog park, you running/long walks with him) she is a sport to put up with him as much as she does!

Well here in Australia you have to get a license here if you want more than 2 dogs, before that law was in Maddie used to have 3 big Rotweiler brothers when she was a puppy so I think it's alot of overdue revenge for her haha.
And I would love, to no ends to get a little girl Husky, I am getting another Husky when my partner and I move out from his parents.
And yes! We just registered for the Alaskan Malamute and Siberian Husky social club of QLD They have lots of events and even weight pulling competitions, of coarse there's no snow here so it's adapted hehe. He's just a little too young just now, needs his last shots
