Hi everyone,
We're considering a new dog bed for our pup, however he's only 4 months old and is still chewing. He loves his crate, but he's in it during the day so when it come to bedtime, he doesn't want anything to do with it. We've experimented with letting him sleep on the floor near our bed and he's doing great! even during the day, he goes into his crate on his own. Our goal is to have him eventually sleep on a dog bed where he feels comfortable, which will probably be near our bed somewhere. My question is; does anyone have this make of dog bed?

They are supposed to be tougher than a regular dog bed and just wanted some thoughts. Thanks everyone for the help!

Well to any other breed it might be chew resistant but I don't think to a husky that does chew...if u think its just for bed time use having u around might stop him from eating it. Do u go to costco? Great prices on beds! And we have had both for the last 3yrs, holds up to washing and all. One is the round stuffed with cider chips and the other a foam one I like the foam one better. Just don't leave it in ur crate

We found that out the hard way, he ate the crate liner the first few days we had him. What a waste of money!!

If you want to have a dog bed just because you will feel better having a dog bed, or to do go to spot training, it's not bad. However, when we got our dogs we immediately went out and got nice beds for each of them. After we noticed that the dogs never used them, we started asking around and sure enough, most people said their dogs never used the beds.

We did 'go to bed' training with Dante and now, when he comes in the room, he goes right to one of the beds and curls up. I don't think he's more comfortable in the bed, as he'll often get up and move somewhere else and lay on the carpet anyway, but it does give him a spot that's somewhat out of the way when we go into the room.

Isis on the other hand, didn't take to the training nearly as well, and wanted nothing to do with the beds. Since then, we've taken an old sheet we used to use (so it smelled like us) and put it out on the floor. She likes to "nest" in that to sleep at night.

Also, we lost 1 bed, 1 blanket, and 2 sheets to chewing/shredding. Isis wasn't actually eating the pieces, she'd attack them if she felt like we were ignoring her when she should be getting attention.

Kale sleeps in my room loose; he has his own bed in there but would rather sleep on my couch or my bed lol he has never slept on a dog bed to sleep at night. I have one in the living room but he only lays on it when he is cat-napping and when it's winter-time. Right now he'd rather sleep on the hardwood and tile floors

Thanks everyone for the input. Right now, Qannik likes to sleep on the floor, usually with just a balled up towel in the corner. He does like the hardwood floors better but I didn't know what others did regarding bedding. We may just hold-off until the winter when he may want to be warmer. Appreciate all the help, thanks!

ours move all over the place at night, some times they start on the bed, move to floor, move to dog bed ken gets up and jack gets back on the bed. its an on going cycle! we also have the rugged air dog beds for camping so they know where to sleep in the tent and they stay there all night, maybe we just got lucky they like the beds.....

That's an entirely new thread for me! I'm interested to see how we do camping this summer, Qannik still likes to bark when he doesn't get attention at night. Thankfully, since we have him sleeping on the floor, that hasn't happened! Don't want to get kicked-out of the campground!!!

we tend to camp in Dispersed campsites to not piss anyone off...

Our dog is crated when home alone and she generally destroys anything in there that is fabric. (But she HATES her crate if there's no bed.) After going through about 5 average-cheap beds we spring for the Orvis ToughChew bed. Supposedly it is stronger, and well I guess it is. For our girl she has only put some rips in the outer cover and no damage to the inner one (normally the bed would be nothing but pieces and shreds) and she's had it for almost a year. The good thing about it is when she finally does rip through the inner layer Orvis offers a lifetime no-questions-asked guarantee on the ToughChew beds. So we will just replace it for free once it's too destroyed. (We haven't done this yet, but will definitely post when we do.)

I think for a truly dedicated chewer, this bed would be toast in no time. Phantom panic-shreds when home alone and digs and chews at the bed but without too much determination. If it breaks easily she finishes the job and if it is tougher like this, she just kind of digs and chomps on it.

I've spent over a hundred dollars on chew resistant bed and my german shepherd tore through it in under an hour. It was of the kong variety. I'll never buy another chew resistant bed again.

Someone once told me "Your dog will always destroy their first bed". Now this is far from true (My wife had an 55lbs Airedale Terrier growing up that slept in his "puppy" bed until the day he passed, despite the fast he did not fit) but I've always seen it as advice to not go over board on the first doggy bed you get.

I didn't check how much the beds in the link retailed for, but if it is on the expensive side try and figure out if your pup will destroy a bed before getting an expensive one. I'm sure a Doggy bed could be resistant to tears and bites, but I know if Tika wants something destroyed it is.

That being said Tika has a Bed, We got it for her at around 3 months and she adores it. She sleeps or lays on it all the time, and when given a treat she will hightail it back to the bed to eat them. The only time she really doesn't sleep on it is during warm nights, or when the cat has taken it over.

We however don't leave it in her crate while at work, as I don't like the fact that if she did get too warm with it under her for that long the only logical outcome would be to destroy the bed to allow herself to lay on the cooler plastic of the crates bottom.

Apart from that, though it has a very small rip on one side it is in very good condition. The bed we bought also allows us to buy new "liquid resistant covers" should it get to the point we need to replace it, and washing the bed is a breeze.

Just my experience with doggy beds, hope it helped at all.

Delilah and Cato both have beds. They love them. During the day, they both have them in the living room and take their naps there. At night, we much Cato's into the bedroom with us and he passes right out. At this point Delilah is either passed out on her bed, or the couch. That all depends on what the cats have taken over.

They don't chew up their beds, but if I put a bed into Delilahs crate it would be gone in seconds.

Willow chewed several beds her first year but grew out if it. It's usually best to wait past the teething stage. Some dogs don't ever take to a bed. Dakota Never liked one till he got much older and I think that was because it was easier on his hips. My girls I have now enjoy their beds. They each have their own and sleep on them through the night not once getting up. I'M thankful for that since I'm a light sleeper.

Thanks for the input everyone, I appreciate all your input. There's a lot to consider and I think we're definitely going to wait until the puppy "chewing" (more like biting!) ceases. We may even wait until the winter now before we get one because I'm sure with the warmer weather coming, he'll be sleeping on the cooler floor rather than a bed. Jenny, thanks for the info on the Orvis beds, the lifetime warranty is great! The one I looked at only has a 90 day warranty. Mindy, we're light sleepers also. The sound of his claws on the hardwood floors is a little better than the sound of his non-stop barking and whining, so in a sense, we gave in to him.

Luna sleeps in her bed all the time. She'll sleep on the floor when I'm watching TV or on the computer. Once she see's me get in bed she'll get in her bed that's located at the end of my bed. So cute! She had some instances where she would drag it in the middle of the room and bite it. I think she grew out of that phase. She's had the same bed since she was 3 months old. Although i think it's time for a new one because you can see the little holes in it from her teeth when she was younger. Thanks for posting this link because I'm in the market for a new one.

We have the costco bed filled with cedar chips as well. Wouldn't have any issue recommending it to anyone....
