diarrhea - Dakota Diarrhea and throw up Empty
PostSubject: Dakota Diarrhea and throw up   diarrhea - Dakota Diarrhea and throw up EmptyFri Apr 06, 2012 3:32 pm

Dakota's has had some diarrhea the past 24 hours or so. A couple times yesterday morning, last night, when he woke me up at 4:30 this morning to take him out, and again later this morning. Randomly, he had a firm stool yesterday in between diarrhea sessions. He has also been throwing up stomach bile the past 24 hours. Nevertheless, Dakota still has his energy and is eating normally. Unfortunately, he won't drink as much water as he usually does, but he is still very hydrated (I did the skin test). I give him ice a lot to make sure he at least gets some water into his system. I called to ask the vet what they thought and they said it could be anything and he sounds okay, but just keep an eye on him to make sure it doesn't get worse.

He is of course very curious about everything and has been going to the dog park a lot. That being said, he will try to eat anything outside that looks appetizing (lately since Spring has started, his favorite snack has been bugs). Many times at the dog park i notice him chewing on something, but I can't get to him to see what it is quick enough before he either runs off with it or eats it. So, it could be that he just ate something that didn't agree with him.

I think he's fine, but you can never be too safe. I haven't give him breakfast in an effort tto settle his stomach. I will give him dinner tonight around 8 or so. I don't think that doing a bland diet is necessary, but it may have to be an option. Let me know what ya'll think! (I have also heard about Pepto working like magic, but I dont know how much to give him. He's 17 weeks old and 27 pounds)

Personally, id give him a full 24 hrs with no food (just water) to allow whatever is in his system to get out, then slowly reintroduce food with a little bit of pumpkin or scrambled egg. Feeding him while he is still having diarrhea allows the bad bacteria to persist. If he is still having diarrhea after the 24 hr period, a trip to the vet might be in order. Hope he feels better soon Crying or Very sad

she had giardia, and those were her symptoms. I agree with brooke. We waited 2-3 days before we went to the vet.

Thanks for the advice guys. Tonight around 7ish will be about 24 hours with no food. Like I said, he's not really drinking any water but he will eat ice so that's what I'm giving him. He is starting to grow his adult teeth in too. I read that that could also cause diarrhea in dogs. We'll see. It now being the weekend, I'll get him to the vet on Monday if he still has diarrhea.
