| hey guys,
Montana got too rambunctious this morning and Kota got hurt. Best we can tell he either pulled a muscle or strained a tendon. It's his back left leg close to his hip, that is where it is most tender. He squalled so loud I thought he had broken it. He is walking pretty good but that spot seems to get tender and stiff with non use.
We are going to get him to the vet on monday to get looked at. Any recommendations on meds for the pain and stiffness until then? I think he will be alright, it's just tender right now. |

| Ice is always your friend. Just good luck keeping it on. You are probably going to have to hold it. |

| I don't know about Tylenol. Just did a quick googling and it looks like no.
My second husky ripped a tendon in her hip jumping out of the car when she was ten. It did heal, but that was the end of her jumping out of the car. |

| I don´t think giving human medicine to a dog is the best idea. No big walks and you could try to massage it a bit, if he lets you of course . And Monday straight to the vet |

| If it's tender and stiff right after inactivity then loosens up pretty quickly it's definitely a tendon. Muscles get worse with use, tendons stretch and feel better. |

| I know Buffered Aspirin is ok for dogs in limited amounts. It's not the best idea, but for a day until you can get Dakota to the vet, it might help ease some of the pain. Other than that, rest, ice and/or heat might help too.
Good luck! |

| Maggie broke her leg and pulled some muscles like almost 2 years ago. The vet told us to just make her comfortable as possible until you can get to the vet. Aspirin I would not give to a dog. |

| I don't know much about this sort of thing and I am no vet. . . but I have terrible tendonitis in both wrists and my doc has always told me heat for pain and ice for swelling. It may or may not be the same for our pups, but maybe try a warmed towel or something like that to apply heat to the area. |

| NO to Tylenol. An aspirin is okay. |

| We give boswellia for pain now. Much safer than aspirin, |

| Thanks, Everyone! I'm happy to report that Dakota is doing much better today. The stiffness is going away. Hubby told me that Kota and Montana actually played this morning! I spoke to my vet today on the phone and he is confident it is a strained tendon. He recommended heat and stretches for his leg. If he gets worse, i'll take him in. Thanks again for the help. |
