| As many of you know, the CFL & SFL Snowdogs are meeting up next weekend for a camping trip! We finally bought tie outs yesterday and when hubby tried one out in the yard there was no way he could get it very far into the ground. I don't know if maybe there's rock under the soil in our yard or if the tie out just sucks? This is what we got: We got a vinyl coated 15ft cable for dogs over 50lbs to use with it. Did we just buy a a crappy tie out? Is there a trick to putting these things into the ground? |

| I dunno about tie-outs but we sunk a 10 ft copper pole into the ground by digging a little whole and then pouring water into it, inserting the pole and pushing down, taking it out, pouring more water, repeat until sunk. The tie out we used was spiralled and came up shortly after attaching Frosti to it! |

| I don't have any good experiences with tie outs. Unless you can get all of that secure in the ground, all it takes is a few full force hits at the end of the line to get the laws of physics working in the dogs' favor. Even with the screw type anchors. Are there trees around? Do you know where the tow hitch points on your vehicle are?
Nylon webbing or para-cord/accessory cord have a few thousand pounds of test ($30 should be plenty for two dogs). If you tie a good knot in it there's no way they're going anywhere from that end of the line. |

| I was hoping there would be trees around to tie up on. I don't trust Frankie on a tie out stake. If there are no trees then I'm pitching a tent with dog in tow, lol. |

| We got the stakes just in case there were no trees close by, but from the looks of it we won't be able to get that entire stake into the ground. I refuse to tie them to it unless it's ALL the way into the ground. There better be trees close to us or we need to make sure to pitch the tent close to trees.
Eddy, it's my understanding that the cars won't be able to come into the camping area with us. That's the only thing that sucks. |

| I used to take Dakota camping all the time and the stake you bought looks similiar to the only one he could not physically pull out of the ground. It's all I will ever use. Check out this link, this is the one I used. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002APLXY/ref=asc_df_B0002APLXY1875532?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&tag=pg-925-86-20&linkCode=asn&creative=395097&creativeASIN=B0002APLXY Occasionally I would find ground that wouldn't let me push it all the way down. Just try a differenct section of the ground. I was always able to find a better spot in the same general area. Do not buy the ones that screw into the ground. Dakota could pull those up everytime!! |

We saw that one too!!! There was only one though so we went with the one that there was 2 of. Only fair. So it works? Ok, good! Maybe it's just my yard. We'll try out at the campsite and see what happens. We'll keep them right next to us and with their leashes attached also "just case". I'm thinking if they're exhausted they won't be doing too much tugging. |

| There are trees and a ton of polls to tie your dogs to. Don't worry about it for camp. _________________ -Sara |

| It worked for Dakota and I tried several types. In his younger years, that boy had pulling power. He even broke one of those small link chains that are used for tie outs. That didn't happen on a camping trip though so don't worry! Dakota was an excellant camping dog and great on the trails! We had some good times! |

| Ava did great with the screw-in tie out that we got for my mom's yard...It screwed it perfectly and she tried pulling but once she figured that she couldn't..she stopped... |

| If there are trees, I'd use that instead of a staking them to the ground. If the soil is rocky, it's a pain to get in. If it's sandy, it is easy for the dogs to pull out. Get a 3rd cable just for wrapping around the tree, and hook the dog's cables to it. Also, avoid clipping their cables to each other; when we went camping, Tikaani tried to go after a squirrel and snapped both clips. Tikaani and Tetsu (didn't have Miyu yet) both ran off to chase after squirrels, luckily Tetsu got tangled in a bush and Tikaani was failing at climbing a tree. It helps to pack extra cable just in case. |

| I was dog sitting a friend of mines bull mastiff (thing was at least 90 lbs of pure muscle!) and he got this tie out metal stake and he hammered it into the ground (he got it at petco) and I tell you what ... we haven't been able to get it out of the ground and neither could that dog! I'll run out later when it stops raining and see if there's a name on it. It looks exactly like the one Mindy posted!! Probably the same thing |
