I had my 5 year old to the vet the other day for annual checkup and this sore was found on what I would call his chin. The vet gave some antibiotic pill and said to apply Neosporin to it also. Well It has finally started to get smaller but am wondering if anyone has seen this before? Pic attached

Oh poor thing! I've never seen that before, but it looks like it must bother him =( Did the vet say what could have caused that?

It doesn't seem to bother him at all, I had no idea he had it at all. The vet wasn't all that sure as to what it was, gave some antibiotic and said to bring him back in if it doesn't get better. It has finally started to shrink down and is about half the original size now so hopefully it is going away.

Does he have a playmate? Almost looks like a bite mark that got infected, if you look right at the middle of the wound you'll see what looks like a break in the skin.

I would agree, it looks like an infection do to the skin being breached in some fashion.

| Well the Vet did say it was possibly an ingrown hair but wasn't sure. He doesn't have a playmate on a regular basis, there are a couple of dogs that people walk that will stop and play from time to time but nothing rough. It looks like it is getting smaller but only 3 days worth of medicine left plus trying to put Neosporin on it also, but that is a chore. I didn't know if maybe this was one of the sores from a Zinc deficiency that I have been reading about but it doesn't look anything like the pictures of some of the sores I have seen posted. We will have to see what happens in the next couple of days.

Doesn't look like ZRD deficiency to me, at least any of the kind of spots my dog gets. They are almost always black and crusty and hardly ever swollen.
