Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff. 3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned. 4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. | I'm having a bit of an issue with Mila, she's lost some hair where her nose and bridge of her snout meet. It's been about a week, and was healing up until last night when she woke us up crying in her crate. She had rubbed it to the point that she had a light coat of dried blood covering most of her snout. It's odd for her to cry, ever. She has the highest pain tolerance in any dog I've ever experienced. A little backstory. She was either bit or stung last week and her face swelled up quite a bit and she vomited a few times and had a lack of appetite for a day or so. Some Benadryl took care of the swelling and she was back to normal in roughly 36hrs. She's now had diarrhea off and on for the last couple days, but not consistently throughout the day, mostly having the runs at night time. I'm not sure if I'm dealing with multiple issues here, or residual problems from the bee sting(likely a wasp), maybe some allergic reaction to the benadryl(she refused to eat it again after vomiting). Also, we had a similar problem with hair loss in the exact same spot on our other dog, a female Pomeranian chihuahua mix. But in the pomchi's case, she just lost hair and revealed white skin underneath, not inflamed and pink like Mila's issue. I examined her with a big black light, reading that ringworm will glow green under UV lighting, and didn't see anything suspect. She's ten months old, 55lbs as of a last week, has had all her shots besides the rabies shot, isn't neutered yet and hasn't gone into heat yet(odd?). She isn't lethargic at all, moves around without pain or discomfort, and her appetite is at about 75% of normal. Sorry for the length, I'm just not sure where to turn right now besides a trip to the vet. |

| My bud had a similar spot starting in the same place on his nose. With him though, it was caused because he was trying to hide stuff I gave him to chew on. Specifically pig ears. He would walk around the apartment and whine, until he found a place to stash it, and then he would use his nose and try to 'cover' it. In the process, he would rub it on the carpet, or even worse the hardwood. He rubbed it raw and bloody and almost to a callous. I just stopped with the pig ears. She could still be itchy from the sting, and running her nose on her crate, bed or with her paws. Maybe try to continue the benedryl for a couple more days to help with the itching? |
