...What does it smell like? Is the smell overpowering, is it mild, or does it just smell like dog food? Specifically the Pacific Stream (puppy) High Prairie (puppy) and Sierra Mountain (only All Life Stage food they still have iirc) formulas? I've been thinking about using their Pacific Stream formula, but I can't stand the smell of fish and if it's going to stink up the room whenever I feed it, I might want to use another formula...

Honestly I've never noticed a smell when I fed pacific stream, High Prairie kind of had an odor but that was very faint. I also bought a 50 pound airtight container to keep all the food in, so my pups don't accidentally get into it and no bugs get in my food.

Pacific Stream does have a strong smell. Like Megan, I keep Bodhi's TOW in an air tight container.

I think they're all kinda stinky. Airtight containers are awesome. Just make sure you're either putting the whole bag into the container (not pouring it in) OR when you're at the bottom of the bin you wash thoroughly because those oils can go rancid on the plastic and contaminate new food. Also, it's nice to save lot codes and the bar code in case there's a recall

Pacific stream smells really fishy. I haven't tried high prairie, Sierra mountain just smells pretty much like what you would expect dog food to smell like. It doesn't really make their breath stink, so, once it's consumed you won't really have to deal with a smell. I use an airtight container as well and definitely make sure to wash it between bags. Diz loves fishy stuff so I actually just bought some wellness that I use for treats. That is the most fishy smelling dog food I've ever encountered!

Also Aiden from what I've read, nothing has changed between their adult and all life stage formulas except the maketing scheme of selling puppy formula. You could feed Yukon the regular version no problem.

Maybe cause I have cats, but it does not seem that overpowering to me. I keep in air tight container, but wet cat food smells 10x stronger

I keep mine in an air tight container as well. TOTW Pacific Stream doesn't really have a high fish odor to me. Acana on the other hand... HOLY CRAP. It's like there are fish right in my container! They vacuum seal their bags though, so it's pretty fresh. I think you'll be fine if you get TOTW Pacific Stream. You can always just buy the smallest bag (online it's 5 lbs), but most stores carry 15lbs. 5lbs will be gone in about 2 weeks or less.

Thanks for all the replays! (also sorry for the rushed original post, I wanted to get the thread in before I had to go... :/ ) @Mobezilla: I really hope your right and the smell isn't too bad. If all else fails then I could just change formulas, right? xD @jalepeno: Ah, so I guess the strength of the smell depends on the individual then? In that case I hope it's not too bad for me... D: @Dot: Yeah, I'll probably just have to accept that the food will smell bad no matter what I do... I'll also start saving the codes in case of a recall. @wpskier222: I was actually terrified of bad breath, if that's not a problem then maybe I can cope with bad smells... >_> @ccurran07: Well there are slight differences in the Protein, Fat, Phosphorus, and (especially) Calcium levels iirc. Also one or two of the minor ingredients are different from what I've read (too lazy to check for myself of course. -_- ) Although outside of those small changes; yeah it was basically marketing and I'll probably just skip to the adult formulas given that they used to be all life stages... @techigirl78: Cat food, ugh. D: @VintageJeans: That's actually an excellent idea. I'll just get a 5lbs bag of each food and then use the one that me (and Yukon of course) like the most, then I can decided for myself if the food is too stinky. xD @everyone: My parents have several empty air tight containers that should work out fine (they store rice, oats, and wheat berries in them) so I'm all set in that department. Also what do you guys think of the wetlands formula? Is 32% protein too much at a young age?

In terms of the protein, you'll just have to see how he reacts. It was too rich for Dizzy and I had him on Merrick Lamb and Rice for a few months. Now that his tummy is a bit more developed I have him on grain free. What does the breeder feed? Is there a reason you want to switch?

| She feeds diamond naturals extreme athlete. There's nothing inherently wrong with the food (besides the fact that there is some grain in it if that bothers people, but I haven't exactly jumped on the grain-free hype train so I'm fine with that... :/ ) I still don't know if I want to switch, but TOTW does seem to be a slightly better food based on the ratings so I was considering the switch. Although on the flip side Diamond Naturals is cheaper, so I should probably ask her how Yukon and co. is doing on the food eh? xD
Edit: Extreme Athlete also seems to have a concentration of 32% Protein and 25% fat, so that's kind of interesting. Although I suppose if they're doing fine on the food then there's no reason to change it, right?

| Aidan- I asked Rachel before if any of the dogs have any food allergies or are picky eaters, and she said they all are great eaters, no problems. Obviously I have no idea about your pups litter, but Caoimhe and Layla's litter apparently did just fine. If that helps at all.
I'm rotating Caoimhe's diet. I switched her to Fromm Gold. Next I have TOTW High Prairie. She did just fine on the switch and eats like a champ. |

That is actually very helpful, with any luck none of them will be picky/have allergies. I'll send her an email now with a couple of questions... xD

I would at least keep them on it for a couple weeks. Going to a new home will probably cause some stomach upset, so the more consistent you can keep his diet the better, just my opinion though. I tried to switch Diz right away and endured weeks of soft stool/diarrhea. He has a super sensitive stomach though, so Yukon might be fine with the switch. It sounds like Caoimhe is doing quite well.

Yeah I'll probably just purchase a big bag of extreme athlete. According to Mrs. Arnold they love the food, are doing well on it, and don't seem to have any allergies. Maybe I'll change the food in a few months, but as of now Extreme Athlete sounds fine (and then I don't need to risk smelling fishy food either >:] )

I feed Kenzi Diamond Naturals and she loves it and has done well on it. There is a huge price difference between it and TOTW or Blue, at least where I live, and that was my big pull for going with it. Still a decent food and leaves me a little cash left over for treats. I've never had any complaints about Diamond Naturals since I've been feeding it. I keep it in the garage where it doesn't matter what it smells like. _________________

Yeah, it's like $40-$45 for a 40 lb bag of Diamond Naturals, while it's around $45-$50 for a 30 lb bag of TOTW. Also I read that it smells better, win-win for sure. xD
