| Subject: Separation anxiety!? Mon Apr 17, 2017 7:28 pm | |
| We have a 10 week old Husky who is been in a crate every monitor we aren't there and when we go to bed. The kennel was put next to our bed and she sleeps in the kennel in our room. We have had her in the kennel since we got her at 6 weeks. My concern is that she screams and whines since we put her in the living room now so we don't have it in the room anymore. I'm concerned that she has sepperation anxiety since she is so used to being around us when she's in it. The longest she used to go in the kennel without any one there is about 4 hours now she doesn't see anyone at night for 8 hours. Should we be concerned? Shouldn't she be kennel trained by now? |

| You got her WAY too early. She missed out on learning so much by taking her too early it is going to take her longer to come around to almost everything. At 6 weeks she was still glued to her litter mates and hadn't started making the natural separation from them into being a more independent dog. She missed out on learning how to play properly so maybe mouthy and nippy as she ages. By not getting to naturally build up her bravery it will set her back on being willing to be alone. It's going to take time. Huskies are notorious for having separation anxiety anyway and if they aren't properly coaxed into it at the right time it can be very difficult. You will have to show her a little tough love if there's a reason she has to sleep out in the living room and not in the bedroom with you. It could take a month or more before she completely submits to it. Sometimes throwing a blanket over the crate helps them to feel safer and will calm them faster. _________________ |

| 10 weeks is still pretty young, and you did just change up living arrangements for her, so I can understand her being upset. She wants to be with her pack (you) and you just isolated her. Don't misunderstand. You didn't do anything wrong as an owner, but from her perspective, you are kind of rejecting her and creating the separation. What you'll want to do is probably go back through a bit of crate training with her. Put her in the crate, and leave. Come back after a bit and reward her if she's been quiet. If she's making a lot of noise, wait until she calms down, and reward the good behavior.
Time and a little positive attention is what she needs to get through this transition. |

| Thank you for the feedback! Her litter was taken away from her before we got her! So it was just her and the mother! And she knows what being in trouble means, she doesn't act out or anything like that. And we get onto her when she cries and she will stop after that. It's only at night sometimes, should we put her back into our room? She is t going to be in a crate forever, just until she is old enough and potty trained, then she will sleep on her bed in our floor at night. And crated when we are gone to work. |

| If she is going to be sleeping in her bed that is in your room eventually then I would just continue to crate her in your room so when you swap her to night time freedom she is still used to being in that room. I crate my boy (adult dog) out in the living room when we are gone and when we stopped crating at night he continued to sleep out in the living room alone for a while after because that was what he was used to. He has since moved into our room sometimes but still not all the time. _________________ |
