I'm starting to think Troy has it. We just got him from a friend on the 13th who couldn't handle him any more. Since he has been at our home he is showing a lot of signs of SA. Today we left for 30m to go get some groceries for dinner tonight and upon returning I found the water bowl I put in his crate in about 50 pieces. He will also cry and whine the entire time in the crate whether the crate is in our room or another room. If i go outside to smoke he will jump on my spot on the couch/bed waiting for my return and cry (this is with my g-f in the same room as him.) He does do it occasionally if she leaves and I am in the same room. I have tried finding tips on how to help curb this issue but figured other husky owners might be able to lend tips that have worked for them.

We had and even still have the same problem with Tama. He would cry/whine and escape Even from his collar just to be free and to be close to us. When we leave him with my parents he also cries and will try and chase the car down for our return. We have had him since 8 weeks old. The crate took alot of practice and really nice smelly bones form him tom chew so we associated his crate with food. He also has a favorite toy"blue baby" that goes in his crate with him. We would crate him with a bone, but asking him to walk "in" on his own and not closing the door until he was calm and chewing his bone. We found closing the door when he was anxious and crying just led to him panicking. We also don't talk to him when we return unless he is calm so again the crate has become a calm and nice place for him. I truly just think he worries we will never come back. Another trick we did when we left him with my parents for a night or two is leave behind an article of clothing that we had worn so that he still had our smell, especially when be was little. He would curl up and sleep on it quite happily.

And as for when you leave the room.... Reward the times that he is being quiet And not crying... If he is food motivated, Have the other person in the room distract and use treat rewards for good behavior and ignore the bad.

In truth it took ALOT of time and practice but now he trusts that we will be back no matter what so he is not as nervous. Mind u I had to leave for the night tonight and he cried the whole time I packed my bag even though he has had a great night with daddy.

Ok... I will try that and see if it helps any. I appreciate the advice.

Our girl has sa really bad! She cries and escapes the crate. We use a calming collar a marrow bone and a Kong every morning in her crate. She now walks in to the crate on her own without any command to go in. She is calm when I get home from work. The first three weeks were bad. She gets better everyday. The trick is for them to be distracted when you leave. It has been four months now and she is soooo much better! Repetition also helps. We have her go in the crate randomly even when we are not leaving so she doesn't think crate time is lonely. They do get better! Good luck and welcome! Your boy is adorable!

Separation Anxiety can be a long and slow problem to deal with. It will take some dedication and sticking to routines to do it, but it can get better.

Thank you, I've read over it and it seems to be making things worse. I took him out 3-4 times within a hour before crating him. After trying the 5m return with a treat thing and gradually getting longer he had a bowl movement.

My dog has the same problem(well he is my dads)...My dad made the mistake of leaving him home alone and within two hours he had 3 bowl movements, urinated 5 times and tore to shreds a book... I did not know how it was possible for a dog to use the bathroom so much in such a short period of time(Note the dog was not completely alone, someone was taking a nap in there room when this all happened)
