The waterbed has been cut and i was 7 boards short and rather than buy wood for something too small i bought some used 12 foot 2x10s and 7 foot 2x6s. My old little 19.2v craftsman just cant so it. All the lumber is going to become 2x2s and 2x4s and by current estimates i have about 80 more feet of cutting. Bought a Ryobi battery circular saw and 30 mins it the engine started to smoke so i returned it. Really i need a table saw and i might rig one but here is the dilemma... what to buy.

Seems top brands and top models for corded circular saws are a dewalt and a makita. Lots of rankings but most are for the occasional diy user and im not sure ripping 80 ft falls into that category. Skil seems to hold up pretty well also. So any brand/model recommendations in the under $250 price range?

I know i really need a table saw but that is out of budget and im not really concerned with things being exactly straight but i will be running a fence or a rail on the saw.

I'm surprised at the Ryobi, I have several of their tools and the only one I've had problems with are an air compressor that leaks at the air head (what you use when you're inflating a tire).  
I have ripped a couple of 2x12's down to 2x6's but never pushed the saw too hard ... it cut and applying pressure to "make it cut quicker" seemed to make it bog down.

I was discussing this with a neighbor this morning who's looking for a replacement for his power torque wrench ... looking at Makita and Ryobi was a price difference of "night and day" (his words, I haven't looked)  He wants something he can carry with him in case he has a flat - like me he's part of the over 60 crowd and wants to take the easy way.

The choices seem to be VERY expensive (for our budgets) for an American brand or less pricey for the questionable imports.  Pays your money and takes your chances.

Exactly so the cordless ryobi was $99 came with a charger and 3 batteries where the cordless comparable makita was 349 (home depot both) decided against batteries.

Then there is the stuff i get like sidewinder and worm drive but some of the other stuff like brush or brushless (clueless)

I had to look twice at that and then look it up. The prices for 3 new batteries is close to $100 so the saw was free? There's something wrong with that picture.

I understand the brush and brushless, just not sure how a brushless motor works ...

With that particular ryobi kit it was like getting the saw and drill for buying the batteries and then it came with a free one. Brushless will last longer. No brushes to wear down.

So I was told by husband and son when I was looking at battery stuff.

We tend to buy DeWalt - but only on sale. Father's day bundlers usually pretty good deals.

Its all about the right tool for the job right? Lots of reviews on dewalt mention the shoe alignment going off and then not cutting straight but without my tools being a political statement, dewalt is made in china and china supports russia. (Dewalt owns craftsman and black and decker now) but i have decided that one of the biggest things i really need feature wise is overload/overheat shut off. With cordless thats the dewalt flexvolt max 40v or the makita 36v. Cant seem to find a corded one that mentions a shut off. And i really want to go corded if i can find one with the right features.

Funny thing is how milwaukee m18 fuel is one of the best smaller battery systems but the corded stuff seems to be crap and that is where skil, makita and dewalt seem to clearly have the upper hand.

I know a bunch of contractors and thier opinions seem to be a 50 dollar skil one i dont care about because this is more of a table saw project and may break whatever im using. The other opinion was i should go to tsc and ace hardware and actually hold them and see what feels right in my hand. Ive never held a right bladed one and ive never used a hypoid/worm drive/rear handle either.
