| Hi, I don't have a husky. I have a shiba inu named banjo. He says woof. (hence the user name).
I couldn't find it here, but I was looking for a review/opinion on a particular breeder of Huskys. See, my cousin REALLY wants one and I want to make sure he gets one from a good breeder. My aunt and uncle are okay with getting a dog, but it will be the first dog for all of them.
Since I don't know the forum rules, I don't want to post the breeder's name here. Could someone kindly help me out?
(or really rudely, I am a grown man with thick skin).
Thanks!

| I'm not finding any useful information about them out there on the interwebs, and usually I'm a pretty good Google sleuth. |

| It was really difficult to find them. They came as a referral from an acquaintance. The woman who I spoke to was awesome and explained the dog's living situation etc. I got a very very good vibe from her. |

| There are plenty of threads on here that discuss what to look for in a breeder but these are a few of the big questions:
Do they have Hip and Eye certifications on all their dogs? - I would not purchase from a breeder that does not have OFA/CERF clearances on the parents
How many litters do they have a year? - Most reputable breeders will not have more than one or two litters a year, if that. Of course, there are exceptions. A red flag on this is if they have a very high female to male ration (ie. 1 or 2 stud dogs and 10 females)
What kind of activities do they participate in with their dogs? - Good breeders are working to better the breed. Usually this also means that they are proving their dogs in the show ring, sledding, agility, etc...
Obviously there is much more that goes into getting the right pup, but those three questions can help you to rule out a "bad" breeder pretty quickly. |

| I only found a brief face book page on the kennel. I will add to Sara'a questions to ask the breeder: Will they take back the dog for any reason at any age, rather than the dog going to a rescue or pound. A reputable breeder will take back their dogs. Things happen and although doesn't happen often, if something catastrophic were to happen, I would want my dog to go back to the breeder. The other question is on health guarantee, genetic issues happen, even to reputable breeders. I personally wouldn't settle for anything less than a 2 year, I know of a member here received an 8 year health guarantee for both of their huskies.
As I've mentioned before, I too am looking, so I am expressing what I know and also trying to see if what I would ask a breeder and what I want from a breeder is realistic. |

| Hmm... okay, they're on:
- Yelp
- FaceBook
- FaceBook again ... as SDK Siberian Huskies
- Yahoo as a pet sitting service
- Google+
- Yello Pages
Maybe I'm being unfair in what I feel from what I see. They appear to have no web site of their own - is that good or bad?? I'm not sure. All the advertising point to them as providing Kenneling options/pet sitting, suppliers of pet food/products. While they've been in business at this location since 1978, they have no D&B rating - that strikes me as odd. Annual income is $52,000 (self reported) - which is extremely low for almost any type of business. However the same two reviewers all say to "get your Husky from SDK". There's something of a red flag to me that the same people review them on several different sites. Does that mean that they really are excellent (if so why hasn't anyone else commented on them) or do they have a couple of friends (or themselves) posting the same review all over. I think that what bothers me is that you have to either call or present yourself there and take their word for everything since I see nothing from them in "black and white" on the web. Even the bad BYB's try to present some kind of image, these folds present none. Personally, I'd be very uncomfortable with this place ..... _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |
