Hello!

My husband and I currently have a year old Corgi and we will be bringing home our first Siberian Husky this upcoming Sunday! We are so thrilled! He will be 8 weeks old when we bring him home. We haven't picked out a name yet, but have a couple in mind.

I have been soaking up tons of information on this forum since we made the decision. Could anyone point me to a post about introducing a puppy to the fur baby we already have? We aren't worried about Tetra (our Corgi) because she does well with other dogs, but that's always outside of our home.

Thanks in advance and so excited to become a member of the husky family!

Welcome to the forum! I'm a Missourian too. My girl came from a shelter up in your neck of the woods. Here are a couple threads that have some suggestions on introducing puppies. While neither is exactly like your situation there was good advice in both threads that will hopefully help you. If the two can't meet on neutral ground and you must do the meet in home, I suggest bathing the puppy before hand to get some of the crazy smells of the kennel off him. But if your Corgi is good with other dogs, small dogs especially, then you should be fine. Hopefully the breeder has been working with their dogs on socialization some prior to you bringing him home to help things go smoother.

Thanks for the links! Both were helpful. I think we will have them meet in our driveway and then wander into the backyard and see how that goes. The breeder said she will bathe our little guy before we pick him up. And, from what we could tell when we visited the farm, all the pups seemed pretty socialized.

Also, glad to see another Missourian! We were worried our Midwest summers may be too hot for a husky, but so far we have noticed people have huskies all over the world (even in tropical areas).

Huskies are very resilient and that fur isn't just for keeping them warm, but also keeps them cool in the summer (hence why shaving them in a huge no no). They tend to become less active in the summer when it is warmer and they can overheat but I have found my girl to be very tolerant as long as she has access to shade and water. Once it hits 90 though I usually just keep her inside with AC running and walk her in the late evenings after the sun has gone down.

Good to know. We will plan on earlier or later walks in the summer then. Smile
