| Hello everyone! I just joined the fourm last night and wanted to say hello! We got our husky girl last week. She is about 13 weeks, we got her from a "rescue" here in town and named her Aurora. She is like no other dog I've ever had! But we love her. I'm hoping we can work with her and get some of the kinks worked out. We also have another dog, she is a boxer named Cricket. They get along very well. Anyone know if there are any groups in the Kansas City area that we can get involved with? I'll be posting pictures of our Aurora girl as soon as photobucket wants to work with me! |

| Oh how beautiful!!! Congrats!! And she has the same face markings, "mask", as my Tundra!! I call it the "Cathedral" markings, because the arch on the forehead reminds me of a cathedral. I am so happy for you!! Congrats!! You mentioned that she is like no dog you've ever had. lol. How true!! Huskies are quite different!! Just be careful, because the main thing I've found with huskies (mine, and others I've met) is that they love to RUN! They are not the best candidates for off-leash walking if you are in the city or any high-traffic area. Also, they love to sing, or talk. Sooooo funny. So many other things, some wonderful, and some not-so-wonderful, make the Siberian husky such a magnificent, special and unique dog. Now that I have had the fortune to be the caretaker for one of these amazing animals, I will never adopt anything else!! I have been converted, lol I wish you all the best on your new adventure. Many happy trails to you and Aurora |

| Thanks so much for the kind words. We do live in the suburbs, so she doesn't get any 'free-roaming' time outside of our fenced backyard. Which has plenty of space for her to run, for now! If it's not once she gets bigger we'll take her to the dog park and on hikes. I'm very excited to have resuced her. She has quite a few quirks that we're having a hard time adjusting to! She has ZERO recall at this point, she has no issue walking right up to your food and taking food off your plate. She just doesnt care! lol She doesn't like to cuddle. She wants to sleep outside at night. She runs away if you try to pet her, or pick her up most times. All of these are things that I've never dealt with. I've always had dogs that are attached to my hip, where I go they go, that I can approah and pick up whenever I want. Cricket will only go outside to pee and poo unless we (or now Aurora) are outside to play with her, she sleeps in bed with my daughter every night. lol She's (Aurora) just A LOT more distant of a dog than I am used to. But I keep reminding myself we have only had her A WEEK!! I know it takes time, Im just hoping she does warm up to us eventually. |

Some huskies are more independent and can seem standoffish. It doesn't mean she won't want to be with you. My first husky would avoid anyone trying to pet him. He just didn't like it. He would only tolerate me and my son loving on him but even then he didn't seek it. He was happiest just being by my side. He followed me everywhere! Give her time. |
