| Dinner tonight was 1.3 lbs of pork ribs I scored some organ meat this week at a really good price so I stocked up...as much as I am disgusted with it I might be feeding it more than I'd really care too. Ewww! _________________ |

| So, I'm gong to feed Mya and Kody a turkey drumstick this evening and I'm crossing my fingers that it sits well with Kody. It's kinda big though, but I'm guessing that once in a while it's ok? |

| I give turkey quarters occasionally and have never had a problem, if it's really big then you might want to decrease his other meals for the day though to balance them out. If I feed a really big raw meal, for example a 3 lb turkey breast, then I'll just decrease his meals the day before and the day after to make up for the extra large meal. For days that you allow them to gorge you could also fast them the day after, I can't look at my hungry boy and skip a day of food like that so I do the decreased meals before and after instead. lol Turkey drumsticks are not that big though, that should be fine for a meal if it agrees with him. _________________ |

Hmmm, I fed them their normal breakfast this morning so I'll just decrease their breakfast and dinner tomorrow. I can't skip a meal with them either...no way. They know when it's time to eat and they start asking for it (especially Kody!!) They're about this big: http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.themeatguy.jp/app/uploaded/product_images/1934/medium.JPG%3F1253097618&imgrefurl=http://www.themeatguy.jp/app/products/view/860&usg=__37lv12VpDDR3RtD0GqS6vH76P-A=&h=302&w=400&sz=116&hl=en&start=0&sig2=IXnblprZGbgHJWZ8K3S3Pg&zoom=1&tbnid=9W1z_q7eTj9ncM:&tbnh=156&tbnw=199&ei=U9sVToneBIfMgQeqhPgu&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dlarge%2Bturkey%2Bdrumstick%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26biw%3D1280%26bih%3D831%26tbm%3Disch&um=1&itbs=1&iact=rc&dur=332&page=1&ndsp=20&ved=1t:429,r:11,s:0&tx=81&ty=92 |

| Have you weighed them Melissa? I know turkey legs are bigger than chicken legs but the average turkey leg should be fine for a single meal. When I give turkey quarters they are generally about 1.5-1.7 lbs give or take I think, while chicken quarters are about 1 lb (give or take). My aim for Dakota who is 52 lbs right now is 1 lb of meat a day so if I feed a 1.5 lb turkey quarter then I'll decrease the next day's meal by 1/4 to 1/2 a lb depending on how active he is. It's a lot easier on him if I do 1/4 lb less the day before and after, rather than 1/2 lb less the day after. Breaks it up a bit more so he doesn't feel so hungry on subsequent days.
What other meats are you giving so far Claudia? I'll admit I don't rotate as much as some due to cost and availability. I mainly rotate between various parts/cuts of chicken, turkey, beef, and pork since they are the cheapest and easiest for me to get. Now that I have some new cheap organ meat sources I'll be incorporating more of that too. Bleh! _________________ |

| I'm only doing chicken right now since that's so inexpensive at Costco. When I run into cheap cuts of beef or turkey at Costco or at the grocery store, I'll grab them, but even the cheap cuts of 'beef' are too expensive for raw feeding. Besides, I don't have a lot of freezer space, so when they do go on sale, I can't get much because of freezer space. As soon as a stand-up freezer is in the budget, I'll start to hit the grocery stores more for meats on sale. _________________ |

| I knw Ginger is a sushi eating Sibe....but Storm is a sushi eating Sibe too! I was preparing to broil Salmon, and I know Ginger loves raw fish, so if she gets a piece, Storm should also get to try a piece...and of course, he loves it! When I first started Storm on little chicken drummettes, it was like he was eating raw for a while and quickly moved him up to 6 oz of raw chicken.... Little did I know he would love raw fish too! $$$$ _________________ |

| Totally chowed that down!!! Kody was smelling all over for more..lol. Fingers crossed that it will settle good with his tummy Val. I'll keep you girls posted.
Oh, and Claudia, Mya loves salmon too! I've given here a few pieces from when we bring sushi home. I usually end up not eating it all and give her the salmon. She LOVESSS IT!! I always tell her to enjoy it because she won't be getting that too often..lol |

Yep, Ginger loves raw tuna and yellow tail...I'll go get sushi grade fish to make sashimi and sushi at home, and Ginger will get a few pieces. She'll sit there, licking her chops and drooling when I'm cutting the fish...That's my girl! _________________ |

| Haha, she knows the good stuff! I hate it because they sit there and stare you down while drooling, but don't even chew when you give them a piece..lol.
Oh, and no tummy issues! YAY! |

| I tried to slip some ground beef with Ginger's chicken tonight and didn't want it. I think I'll have to do that searing exercise with her again to get her started.
Storm, on the other hand, ate his all up...and then sniffed Ginger's bowl and wanted her uneaten mouthful of raw ground beef.

| They'll get used to it after a while. Is she picky to try new foods? Or is it just with the raw? Kody will eat anything and Mya actually really liked ground beef, BUT the 2 times that I gave it to her she threw it all up right after =( |

| I think it's the scent - typically, raw doesn't have as much scent, so when we started her on chicken, she didn't know what it was until we seared the skin to give it more of a scent. I think that's what's happening with ground beef. I think I'll need to sear it and she'll eventually figure it out. But I'm OK if she doesn't go for beef her first holistic vet recommended she eats 'cool' proteins - fish, chicken, turkey and duck. Warm proteins are beef, bison, lamb, pork, and venison. Warm proteins are higher in calories and fat. With Ginger's build being closer to the show line, she can get really stocky if we don't watch her food intake. She was holding at 58 lbs since last November and last week she weighed in 53.4 lbs. I'm thinking it's because we've started giving her raw dinners every night which helped her to lean out.
On a side note, I decided to try coconut oil again, and gave Ginger 1/4 tsp in her breakfast and lunch and she still goes soft...so no coconut oil for Ginger. As for Storm, he gets almost 1/2 tsp in his breakfast and lunch and he appears to be doing OK on coconut oil. So I think I'll just keep it up for Storm and none for Ginger.

I think if I sear it at first, she'll figure it out. _________________ |
