I was just wondering if anyone else's husky likes to eat grass? Not just any grass though, a very particular kind, possibly crab grass?

Yes! Luci likes to pull the weeds from the grass. She gets the whole thing, even the roots. When I lived further north where trees lose their leaves, she would go for those too.

Our Zoya eats grass in the spring and early summer. She sometimes grazes on the stuff.

Lycus LOVES to eat crabgrass all year round. Weirdos lol. I think some of them just like the taste. I know some dogs do it excessively when they have a stomach ache.

My husky doesn't eat grass, but I had a border collie who LOVED eating grass. She would go outside and the first thing she would do is eat a little "salad" as we called it. I think it's pretty normal, as long as the dog isn't vomiting afterward.

PostSubject: Re: Grass eating?   Grass eating? EmptySun Mar 16, 2014 8:30 am

All of my dogs eat grass. And I've noticed that certain "special" grasses that are rare to them are enjoyed even more than the grass in our yard. When we go to places that have various kinds of grass, they'll find certain kinds and just plop down and start munching away. I'm no grass expert, so I have no idea what the types of grass are, but I've done my research into it and it seems harmless for dogs to eat grass. I know mine will do it to help them throw up anything indigestible from their raw diet, like bones their body couldn't break down. The research revealed that this is normal for a lot of animals who eat grass, so my pups have been eating grass for 6 years now with zero health problems and no issues from grass eating.

Yes I was wondering this same thing myself. Ellie will go to certain spots in the yard and just lay and eat grass, like you said, specific grass. She also just likes holding leaves in her mouth when we run around the yard. haha.

Glad to hear this is not harmful, and normal.

Anubis eats alot of gras around spring too. Every dog I know is doing the same.
Maybe it is tasty for them but I think they do it because of instinct, to clean their tummys.

Grass eating? Empty
PostSubject: Re: Grass eating?   Grass eating? EmptyTue Jun 17, 2014 4:36 am

My Niko has just shown his first urge to eat grass on this mornings walk.

At first I stopped him, then thought that he obviously wasn't feeling well, and decided to let him eat a little bit.

Within a few minutes he brought it back up, but it was just the grass, nothing else.
I can't decide if he was doing it for his health, or if he was just having a curious 10 minutes. He seemed fine before-hand, happily walking at my side, and he seems fine now, on his back cooling down by the front door.

We have to started weening him onto some new sensitive biscuits, but I wouldn't have thought those would have made him need to be sick? Surely they would make him go the other way?

I'll see how he goes on with this afternoons walk.
