I am looking for suggestions on a harness to start my 9 week old Nira on. Would like something local and not online. Probably going to petsmart or tractor supply.

Would like the harness for walks, and jogging. I want to train her right and not have her pulling while walking etc. Any suggestions?

She pulls already with her collar and I want to break bad habits before she gets any bigger.

A harness will make her want to pull more, just an FYI. This breed was bred for pulling and putting them in a harness is like asking them to work. Personally, I'd lean more towards a martingale or pinch collar with heel training if you want to eliminate pulling.

I don't think that would work with pulling honestly.

we used it for training classes at Petsmart and it worked great.

Im just going to bring her in and walk her around the store with a variety and see what works lol.. Thanks for your suggestion

I have the Premier Easy Walk Harness for Willow and it works! She can still pull a bit but nothing like she does when she isn't wearing it. I can be standing still and she will try to pull so hard her front legs are off the ground. The Harness completely stops her from doing that. However, I have heard raving reviews on the Walk Your Dog With Love Harnes so I ordered it to compare the two. I just got it in the mail today and it does look like it is designed to work better than the Premier Easy Walk harness. I will be trying it out tomorrow so I can let you know.

I bought this harness for Dakota yesterday after his puppy classes and i can notice a HUGE difference in how much he is pulling. He tries to chew the leash more though because it's taunting him right in front of his face a little more often now haha. Anyways, I got this one instead of the premier harness because it was a few dollars cheaper and looked a little more comfortable. The sizes also cover a wider range so it will last him much longer, saving me money in the long run. It's great and I'm pretty happy with my purchase!

I recently bought a fairly "rugged" Kong brand harness. It has heavy clasps, thick stitching and a chest plate. The medium barely fits with the straps alllll the way tight on my 35lb girl, so it should be perfect as she grows and fills out. I have only used it once, up at Mt Hood, hiking in the snow. I loved it though. Easy adjustability, quality of build, and the ring to attach the leash is placed well. It definitely does make them more inclined to pull, but I tie her leash to my belt, and I'm a wee bit heavier .

I like that the Ringlet for attaching the leash is on the top of the harness, set just forward of center on the dog's back.

I use the method where you stop dead when they run out ahead to pull, and call them back to your side (heel) once they stop. Treat and praise them when they come to you, and then start walking, holding a treat in front of your left knee. They will trot right at your heel like a horse with the carrot, say heel and treat them mid-stride. Practicing this consistently, Keeonah's walking habits changed in 2 weeks. She now walks on a loose leash 80% of the time. I waited to buy a harness until I had a solid heal on a regular collar, and still use a normal collar for in town walks.

Also remember though, that dogs develop phsyically until they are over a year old, and prolonged running, especially on concrete, can damage the developing joints.

Don't forget, huskies LOVE to pull and it can be a great thing for them to do - in the right circumstances of course. You can train them to pull while wearing a certain harness and to not pull wearing another. And if you are going to be jogging with her, it's nice to have a little help - canicross style!! The dog will pull you but at YOUR speed. It can be a very useful training tool if you plan on skijoring or bikejoring later on. Nice way to start with a younger dog too, as you can go short distances and make it nothing but FUN for them.

I have the easy premier walking harness as well. It works, except when I try to take kya into the water. Then I have to use a regular harness bc she will fight me until the harness snaps. I don't take her in very often unwillingly ( she loves it sometimes, but doesn't other time), but the saltwater is a natural flea killer, so I make her go in atleast once a week lol
