| First bikejoring run of the spring season! I hadn't been on the bike with Layla for almost a year, and I really missed it. Darren stayed home with little Tabitha so I could go. Layla was a little out of shape but really took off and looked like a race dog when she was running. We probably went about three miles, and Layla was exhausted by the end of it. We both had a lot of fun with our Boston Snow Dogs crew. Pics below, courtesy of one of a fellow BSD member. Airborne Layla, excited to get on the trail! Heading out Time for a water break! Cute photo op on the top of a boulder Another member shot this one during our second water break |

| How fun! Love the pics your line doesn't hit your tire? |

| Nope! I have a tire guard that keeps the line away from the tire. It's hard to see in the photos because it's a similar color to my bike, but it looks like this: http://www.alpineoutfitters.net/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=236
Also, Layla keeps pretty well lined out when she's running. When the bike is stationary I usually hold the line so it doesn't get caught in anything. |

Haha, definitely! She's a nut when she's about to run. I was glad the photographer got that shot; it's one of my favorite Layla photos ever. - TwisterII wrote:

It definitely was a bit chaotic with all the bikers and dogs, but everyone had a great time and we had zero incidences besides a few people's dogs wandering into this muddy, gross, deep water. For the most part, Layla stayed dry, haha! |

| Thanks for the link, I'll be getting one of those with some more practice on the spinger! Smart! I've tried it with just a leash but it always gets slack and hits the tire or she goes to far left or right then slows down especially when passing other dogs have to practice "on by" more XD you did great with commands with Layla, she looks so happy |

| I don't know if any one has told you this but with her facial markings Layla looks a lot like some of Lisbet Norris dogs. If you don't know she is one of the people who runs the iditarod with a pure Siberian team. Just thought it was kind of cool. |

| Thanks, Aiden, Renee and Jane! Jane, if you get the tire guard, you should also invest in a bikejoring gangline and post connector. Alpine has those too. They say "scooter" but it'll work on a bike as well. http://www.alpineoutfitters.net/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=54 and http://www.alpineoutfitters.net/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=45
Elise, I didn't know what Lisbet's dogs look like. Now I have to look for pictures. That's really cool! |

| Thanks! I also found her Web site. The dogs DO look a lot like Layla and her relatives. A couple of her piebalds really resemble Layla's mom, Roxanne: http://www.kennedysleddogs.com/Roxanne.htm And the pup on the lower left looks almost exactly like Layla! |

Layla's rather light, and while powerful, when she takes off it's fairly easy for me to control her with my body and hands firmly on the handlebars. Most of the time she'll try to take off before I've got my feet on the pedals, haha. The line is very strong, and I've never doubted its ability to hold her back. Husky power really helps on those big hills, too, by the way! |

| Lol I know what you mean she really kicks into gear she there a cat out or a bird lol Miya really doesn't pull too hard I wish she would so I don't have to use all my leg power. Maybe doing some training with her pulling something heavy will help. Have you done anything like that or is she just a natural?
Also I agree she looks very very similar! |

| We did command training (gee, haw, on by, whoa, etc.) with Layla on walks and hikes from the very beginning, but we didn't have her really pull anything until we started training her with the bike; she was a natural! However, lots of pros will hook pups up to a log and have them pull that around to train them to get used to having something to pull behind them. You can also try training "line out" so she keeps pulling and keeps the line tight. Here's a good video primer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UwZDTuP6BTQ You could also try encouraging her while she's running with phrases like, "Good girl!" "Keep going!" "Hike, hike, hike!" etc. |

| Thank you! I have been found the commands on walks and while biking on the Springer, takes time for her to really get it. That's a great video to teach line out, pretty much the same as show training I am doing with the stand and stay |

| Layla and Tabitha have become best friends. I took the first pic yesterday and the second one today. Layla snuggled up to Tabitha all by herself. She's always trying to cuddle up with her and nuzzle her when she's playing on the floor. Tabitha watches Layla intently and reaches her hands toward her face to try to grab her ears and pet her. They're really quite the pair. I hope their relationship will only continue to blossom as Tabitha grows. Layla's proven to be a wonderful, sensitive companion for us all. She's a great running and biking buddy, too! This is Layla's favorite spot to lay down when Tabitha's in her swing. She "guards" her. |

| Layla is so sweet. Glad she is doing well with the baby. Kenzi likes kids but still has the whole paw-to-face thing she needs to get under control. _________________ |

Thanks! I agree. They're already the best of friends. I hope Tab has a beautiful relationship with Layla as they grow together. - TwisterII wrote:

Layla does that sometimes, too, though she doesn't mean to; she wants to play and doesn't realize Tabitha's too little yet. We've had a couple instances where she's pawed her head, no injuries but just made Tabby cry a little. I watch them both like a hawk whenever Tabitha's on the floor. Most of the time Layla is gentle and loving with her, though, as you can see. |
