Sorry to be MIA for so long!

I have recently brought Reiko to the Dog Daycare I have been working at, he has only been there 2 times so far, but both last night and the night before, he has been up all night licking the pads of his hind paws. There doesn't appear to be any cuts or anything on them that is visible. Some other people were saying that there dogs paws have been sore as well. They think it might be the ground where there could be too much pee, so they are digging it up and putting down some new pebble. I'm just wondering if there is anything I could do to help soothe his paws now. He's in obvious discomfort. Sad

Paw wax may help, and it could protect the paws in the future. I use a brand called mushers secret. I know they also sell something similar at Petco. I think its called tender foot or something similar.

Excellent observation on the pee on the ground idea. If it from that then all Reiko should need is a simple washing with warm soapy water and rinse well. Also maybe consider some doggy boots.

Thanks for the ideas! I did wash them after we got home and gave them a bit of a soak. He's still in a lot of pain today, he hardly wants to walk. So I think I'm going to have to take him to the vet tomorrow.

I'll look into that mushers wax, but he may have to be sporting some booties Razz

have you done a Epson soak for his paws? i have done that for minor cuts or flair ups on our 2. just follow the mix directions on the container.

I took Nicky and Hayden swimming at a new dog park over the weekend and we were there for a little over an hour. Hayden didn't do much, so he's fine, but Nicky was a mad woman jumping off this small rock waterfall, diving in full force retrieving tennis balls, etc and now I'm noticing her left rear paw is raw on the inside. She keep's licking it, it's not open or cut, just a dark pink color. The bed of the creek was stone instead of soft sand, so I'm thinking that may have caused the irritation.

Can the paw wax help in this situation?

The wax should help if you can keep her from licking it. Maybe put wax on then a bootie. Epson soak should help to.

Thanks Jen! I called the vet and they said to do the Epson salt as well and an E-collar if she doesn't stop licking it. Smile I'm also going to be picking up some of that wax too, just so I have some on hand.

I want to take her back swimming again, since she loves the water so much, I just hope this doesn't happen every time she goes in the water.
