| If so, can you explain the similarities and differences and the strong characteristics that you think really defines each as a breed? |

| I don't own a Dobie, but have been around a bunch and plan on having a Dobie in the near future They are great dogs with a bunch of energy! http://dog-breeds.findthebest.com/compare/58-142/Doberman-Pinscher-vs-Siberian-HuskyI wouldn't go off everything that site says, because I found some things to be not true. |

| I owned a Miniture Pincher as a kid and she was CRAZY! I want a Dobie some day as well. Just as the same with any breed... research, research, research! |

| Yeah the doberman just recently really interested me. What scares me is the health issues I hear online all the time. And whether or not I would crop the ears.. |

| Health issues can be a problem unfortunately with the breed. Just make sure you find a really good breeder that does health testing. If I were you, I would try to talk to as many breeders as possible and ask about their health guarantee and if any health issues run in their lineage. Try to stay away from the breeders that sell the "superior size" Doberman's. Those dog's tend to have hip problems and will likely not live as long as a normal Doberman.
Some people are against cropping/docking and state it's purely cosmetic, but personally I will be cropping and docking my Doberman. It's all a personal preference in my opinion and I love the way it looks, but the uncropped are just as cute too! Just make sure if you do crop, you clean the ears extremely well and post the ears correctly, or one could fall or end up not being even. Try to keep the ears posted as long as possible, so the dog has time to build strength in the ear cartilage. Some people see their Dobie's ears standing and take the post's off too soon and the ear will drop, so don't be fooled. Females should be posted until they are 6-9 months old and males 9-12 months old. |

| Very Good advice, thanks Kelly. Do you have any idea how much it costs to crop the ears? And I don't think I have to worry about docking the tail since I think they are docked right when they are born. |

| Some people are starting to prefer the look of undocked tails as well. The majority I believe come docked though. Ear cropping cost varies, depending on the vet. A lot of vet's will not crop anymore and if they do, it's important to make sure they have ears of experience cropping or else they can really mess up you're dog's ears! Also, make sure you know which type of crop you want, as there are several different types, such as military, medium, and show. The military is semi-short and has a wider base/bell. The medium crop is a little longer with a little less base/bell. The show is the longest of the three and more narrow than the other two crops. Personally, I would ask the breeder to crop the puppy before I brought him home. There is a age limit to when the puppy can be cropped and by the time you bring him/her home that's usually pushing the limit. If you have the breeder do it, which I have found most will do, they add an additional fee to the price of the pup, which is usually like $200-$300 unless the cropping is already included with the price of the puppy. Military : Medium: Show crop :

| lol ears of experience was a total type-o, but it was pretty funny haha.
Finding a good Doberman breeder really depends what you're looking for. If you're looking for a real working dog, then go for European and with a breeder that imports and focuses more on working and schutzhund vs a breeder that focuses more towards showing their Doberman.
Make sure you visit the kennel if at all possible! We had a local woman in my area that is from Russia and honestly looked like a fantastic breeder from her website and claimed to import beautiful Doberman's and they were from her site. She had an inspection and found out she was breeding Rottweilers, Great Danes, Boxers, and some other breeder as well as Doberman's and kept them in HORRIBLE conditions! She was pretty much running a puppy mill and it was not good at all!
Make sure you do a rip off report search on the breeder as well to make sure they have a clean history. Also, do a search with the better business bureau. |

| a good place to start is the breeds club page
http://www.dpca.org/
they will only support breeders with good ethics and should be able to answer any questions and help find a good breeder. |
