They meet you and say oh your dog is so skinny.. While their's is actually overweight/obese and going to most likely die prematurely ...

We had a discussion about it at block course.

Yes, some people think that all dogs should look like number 4. I'm not sure how that standard came to be. Maybe because so many dogs in the United States are sedentary, neutered and fed low-quailty kibble that is high in carbohydrates.

I don't have a problem with people saying Anya is underweight. If someone says anything about her weight its usually a compliment on how lean she is compared to other Huskies they've seen.

Yeah my vet said he should be between 93-95 for his size, so i want him to lose at least another 5lbs. I don't know how to get him to lose the weight though when he barely eats anything as it is and I walk him 3-4 times a day, he also goes to the dogpark twice a week. Funny thing is though he doesn't really run at the park, he just walks around mostly and goes on petting stops lol. He's really lazy, the only time I ever see him run is usually when he's running to the water fountain at the park haha. Vet said he's fine though as long as he doesn't gain any more weight.

Your boy is pretty big for his age, maybe he'll become a huge bear like mine! haha

Yeah... they have this tool online where you enter in your dogs breed, age and current weight, and it estimates what they will be at maturity... currently he is expected to be about 70lb..

I used a number of calculators when Loki was little and it would say that we would weigh 60lbs full grown. He was 67lbs before 10 months. I think often they are just guessing too.

Lexie is 106+ pounds. Would like to get her down to 85 pounds. She doesn't eat much. Problem is she tore her right ACL, and doesn't get enough exercise. Helpful ideas welcome.

Any movement made = Calories burnt. Grab a toy and just play tug of war with her on the floor as much as possible.

How much do you feed Anya daily? Dizzy is 47 lbs and I'm feeding between 1-1.25 lbs a day. I'd say on the chart, he's a 2, and I'm happy with his conditioning.

I feed the about the same amount... usually around 1.25 lbs. I think a 2 on that chart should be closer to the "ideal" for working breeds. That chart is definitely misleading!

I agree, I was thinking the 'idea' looked kinda fat to me.

12 weeks = 12.6 pounds
16 weeks = 17.8 pounds
20 weeks = 19.4 pounds
24 weeks = 23.8 pounds

Finally broke the 20-pound mark, haha. She grew a lot and gained a lot in just four weeks!

Maybe the time between 16 and 20 weeks is normally slower in terms of growth. Layla only gained about two pounds during that time.

Sounds possible! I'm just happy that he's not gaining 2,5-2 pounds every week for once Very Happy Maybe he will slow down a bit now.

Nearly 35 pounds at 19 weeks is quite large, even for a male! From the look of the size of his paws he does have a little more growing to do, too, haha. Wink Layla's just the opposite. She is a female so is naturally on the smaller side but she's been gaining slowly and relatively steadily ...

He's quite large indeed, especially his paws! Very Happy Both of Rosko's parents are quite small. Well "small" I should say, his dam weighs 42 pounds and his sire 48 pounds so they're within standard. So either a funny gene has popped up in him or he'll slow down soon!

Layla is such an adorable puppy! I'd prefer a slow and steady growth myself tbh Smile

Here's a picture to show just how big his paws are Very Happy

I always peek into Layla's scrapbook when you update it Very Happy My boyfriend randomly spotted her as I was sitting by the PC and he said "who's that?! :O " and I showed him her scrapbook with the result of him wanting to kidnap her. Wink He has this thing for petite huskies with dark eyes. But don't worry, we're far away from you Laughing

The picture is straight after a bath yeah! There is one picture of him in the shower and one when he's been dried up properly in his scrapbook if you want to see Smile Oh and thanks for the compliments too!

Kiya is 10 months old, and only ways 38 lbs. Should I be concerned? All of her sister siblings are already well into the 50lb mark.

I wouldn't be too concerned. That's a pretty good weight for a 10-month-old female. She's not fully grown yet so she could have a growth spurt any day now and catch up to her siblings.

I agree with capellalayla, adult females should only weigh 35-50 lbs anyways so Kiya is within the breed standard. She'll also probably gain like 5-10 more lbs before she stops growing in my opinion.
