Koda always weighs in at 60 lbs give or take a pound or two depending on the visit.

Hailey was weighing in at 52 lbs the last vet visit Sad But we've dropped her down since then, so I'm going to bet she's back to her 45 lb mark Smile

Congrats on cutting back Sierra's lbs, Jenn! Very Happy

Ridik: 72 lbs
Sioux: 104 lbs
Coco: 83 lbs
Tambi: 4.7 lbs

We've taken 12 off of Sioux since the April vet visit when he got his current nickname. I would really like to get him under 100, but he's a piggy. The others are perfect, stunning representations of well worked dogs (if I do say so myself). Although Sioux's intensity/stamina is starting to catch up with Ridik. My piggy turned five last week. I need to ask my sister again about Ridik and his age when her friend got him, but I suspect he's turning six or seven this Halloween. That's sobering.

Sora is about 40lbs. I keep wondering if she is going to get bigger, not so much weight size, but taller, and well.... haha more "husky". I heard they get another growth spurt before they turn 2, but she just looks so small compared to pictures of other huskies!

How tall is she now? They get another quick growth spurt from 15-18 months and then generally fill out after that until they're 2, sometimes 3 years old Smile

I weighed my three a week ago, I'll be doing weigh ins again this weekend.

Dakota, 5 yr old male sibe: 59 lbs (I'm working on bringing him back down to about 55-57 lbs, he's been hovering at 60 lbs for about the past 8 months now)
Faith, 5 yr old female chi: 6.4 lbs
Glory, 3 yr old female chi: 6.9 lbs

Pictures can be deceiving so I would not judge size based on a pic. Even judging size from comparing multiple sibes in person is tricky also because most sibes that you run into at random are larger than they should be (larger than the breed standard that is). In all my years and the many many huskies I've met in person, only 2 have actually fit the breed standard as far as size goes and one of those two was a show quality female. That number does not include my boy who actually does fit the breed standard size limit but he is at the very upper end of the limit yet he is dwarfed by 99% of all the sibes we've met...males and females combined.

That's a really good point, Val Smile Koda is at the very high end of breed standard for a male (60 lbs and 23.5" tall) but he's often dwarfed by many of the male sibes we meet too!

Jack is so much taller then Sierra so i wonder since she was used for breeding if she is standard and Jack is just tall? i should look up the sizes and see where they fit.

Nanuk weighed in at 56#s in June. He's aroud 4 years old.
Isis is 2 years old and 52# last Feb.
Mika was 40# when we got her, weighed 52# in March, and has packed on the pounds. I am guessing she is about 60-65#s now. Maybe I'll take her to PetSmart this weekend, just to see. She had dropped a few pounds since we put her on a diet. Her age is approximated at 2-3 years.

Thanks, I try to keep them in shape. He's all Malamute, but half pig. Looks like I'll never be able to walk away while they are eating. He always finds a way into another bowl or the cat food. Yech, when he gets into the cat food...

Yeah, Mika will finish first, (I mean she settles down on the floor and puts on the feed-bag. ) Then she nonchalantly will walk over to another if they have left it. She no longer tries to bully them out of it, as they showed her their teeth and there were a few scraps about it. I think she's getting better as she's been with us longer. I believe it's starting to sink in for her that she will always get 2 meals a day, but she just hates to see a few lonely kibble sitting in a bowl! Laughing She is still the only one who gets really excited about kibble-time!

Hi, Mya is 4 1/2yrs old and weighed about 58lbs until we got her spayed about 8months ago. She gained 14lbs! She's at 72lbs! On her last visit to the vet he said that her weight was fine and that she was perfect how she is. I personally think she's a bit chunky (lol). She used to be so slim! Do you guys think that she should shed a few lbs? I walk her everyday and she really doesn't eat that much so I don't know what else to do Crying or Very sad

I'd need more information. Can you post pictures of you looking down on her back when she's standing and one looking at her from the side? What kind of food does she eat and how much does she get a day?

78 lbs is SUPER big for a female (female standard is 35-55 lbs), but huskies are so poorly bred these days, that it wouldn't surprise me if she was bred improperly. Did you get her from a breeder? How big were her parents?

You should be able to feel her ribs easily but not see them. If you can't really feel her ribs, she's definitely overweight.

Thanks for the response!

She eats Purina One and a small can of wet food once a day. I'd say about 2 cups of the dry food. She sometimes doesn't finish it though. Hmmmm I can feel her ribs, but not too too much

Yes, we did get her from a breeder, but we only saw her mom. She was normal sized I think. Mya is our 1st husky so when we got her we really didn't know much about the breed so I'm assuming that her mom was of normal weight.

The vet advised that she would gain weight after getting spayed, but i didn't think that it would be this much! =(

yeah she could probably shed a few, canned and purina are both not the best foods. have you considered her switching her to a different kibble?

when we fed embry purina, we almost always had to give him wet food with it. we switched him to taste of the wild (http://www.tasteofthewildpetfood.com/) and he was gobbling it up in seconds

Not sure where you're located, but there are some really great grain-free kibbles offered at Costco (Jenn- can you jump in with the name on this one?). Also, if you have a Tractor Supply Company, their 4Health is actually quite good.

Taste of the Wild (in terms of brand-name quality) is the cheapest and it runs me about $40/30lb bag. I've seen others able to get it cheaper. I live in a fairly populated area of New York state, so that could be why Smile

I agree though.... I'd want her to shed some if she were mine. The first picture, her waist should come in a little more at the hips and from the sides, she could probably use to shed a few pounds. You were right, huskies should look a lot leaner than your vet suggested (if the vet isn't familiar with huskies, it's a common misconception). Huskies are picky eaters, so it doesn't surprise me that she doesn't eat the Purina. It might take you a little while to find a food that works, but every dog is different. Just make sure to integrate the new food gradually (should take about a week) and then it takes 2-3 weeks for the food to settle in properly for you to see the desired effects.

Check out www.dogfoodanalysis.com for kibble suggestions. Most of us here feed foods that are either 5* or higher.

Can you find Taste of the Wild at your local pet store? We're in MIami and I have a Petsmart, PetSupermarket, and Petco all within in 10min of my house. A friend of ours has a husky / 1/4th german shepard and he feeds him Blue Buffalo. He swears it's the best! I looked it up and they have one for healthy weight . Have you heard of this brand?
