| Subject: Outdoor kennel. Fri May 17, 2013 12:41 am | |
| So I'm planning to build an outdoor kennel for my husky that connects to a room that's already all hers. I want to be able to let her go outside when I'm not home. Any ideas on what materials I should use for the walls? I was thinking chain link panels but don't know exactly how high they should be.
Just to clarify the kennel would be under a deck so she'll have shade and if it rains she can go back inside. |

| Bodhi's kennel is 6'4" high. He can jump that high! As you can see, I have a cement floor, so he can't dig out. Also some dogs can climb. So you'll want either rollers on the top, or the roof to attach on top of the chain link. And the gate needs at least two latches. Dogs can pull the gate open with just one latch. (Bodhi escaped this way). Now I have two latches AND a reinforcing cable attached to the gate. The corner in my photo where he had been chewing is now backed up by a triangular metal plate. Huskies are escape artists and incredibly resourceful. Plan for the worst case scenario. |

| Thanks for the tips. Can I ask you how much it all cost and how big your kennel is? I think just to be safe I'll just get chain link all the way up the patio that's going to be the roof. And did he actually chew through that corner because mine is a ridiculously strong chewer too. |

| It's about 15 ft. long and 10 ft. wide. The cement floor and chain link fence were there when I bought the house. I armored the wood pillars and the wall of the house that's one side of the kennel. Then I put a wood superstructure above the chain link to hold plastic panels for a roof. I don't remember how much it cost, but it was ridiculous.
I don't know if Bodhi actually chewed through the corner, or he used his teeth to unwind the links. But he made a hole and he was going to get out eventually. |

| Our outdoor kennels are chain link (heavy graded) 25 long' x 10' wide x 6' tall. Each kennel has welded wire grids under the pea gravel to prevent dig outs, the panels are clipped every couple of feet to the bottom of the chain link fence. There is also welded wire secured to the top to prevent climb/jump out scenarios. To show the wire grid under each run- Completed but not topped- |
