I cannot seem to find much on these forums with regard to outdoor runs but here goes -

We have done a lot of research into Huskies and feel that we would love to bring one into our home. Having visited a few breeders, we like the idea of building a run outside as well as having secure fencing, to keep the Husky when we are out of the house. Does anyone else use a run (5 sq metres I am thinking) to keep their husky whilst at work or out? For info, the Husky will not ever be left outside when we are there and only one day of the week will it be left all day without someone at the most. I am thinking this would be better then a crate anyway.

We have a old kennel we used for my past dogs that koda uses right now when im out.. Part of the garage is boarded up so he has his food and water inside and then he has a fenced in area outside. We currently building him a brand new one which should be done in a month or two. There will be a breeze way (inclosed pourch with air and heat) and he will have a dog door with a 6ft high fence. We poured concrete all the way around the fence so he would have a hard time digging out. The outside area is probably 150sq feet.

Mine is 8' x 14' and 7' high and built of chain-link. Make sure it is tall enough, as they will jump or even climb out. You may have to cover it with a tarp to prevent them climbing out. If you do, be sure and stake it down as the wind will pick it up and carry it and could potentially injure your dog. Be sure to leave plenty of water, especially on hot days, but even in the winter. And finally be aware that they will sometimes howl in a run all day long, which can be very annoying to the neighbors if you have close neighbors.

I built my own kennel runs attached to the main dog yard where my dogs spend the day in...they are in the kennel runs at night. Our kennel runs are 25' x 10' x 6' with wire mesh tops and buried wire grid below the pea gravel flooring. The only time my dogs ever seem to howl and carry on is when there are sirens traveling through the area or when the coyotes are carrying on.
