First post here. I have a 1 year old husky, Maya, that I just took to the ER vet tonight after watching her basically mutilate her tail all day until it bled. They ended up shaving her WHOLE TAIL and there are wounds and scabs all over it. She was diagnosed with moist dermatitis. I am just glad none of the wounds are infected and no tail amputation had to occur. However, I am worried her tail will never look the same...I hear once you shave a husky their guard hairs never fully grow back. She had a beautiful red stripe down her tail that was like her signature and I want it to grow back so badly. Do you guys have any information on coat growth?

keep her well brushed because the undercoat will grow faster than the top coat and will get matted more easily. Make sure you do a down to the skin brushing and use an undercoat rake to get out all the loose undercoat as it grows back. Until she has enough coat to use the rake, you should use rubber mit, then when her coat grows a bit you can use a slicker brush (one of those T shaped, metal bristle brushes), then the rake. It will probably be 6 months to a year before her coat is 100% back to normal, but it should be long enough to protect her in 6-8 weeks

Thanks you so much! That is very helpful. I will have to go pick up a rubber mitt but I have the other 2 brushes. She is doing very well now, still getting used to the "cone of shame" but she is comfy in the bed tonight while I sleep on the couch

If you have two other brushes iam sure the need to get a rubber mit isn't truly needed just make sure your getting all the loose hairs out if you find you can't then get the mit. and LOL very cute my puppy wont sleep in my bed lol

I would suggest adding salmon oil or coconut oil to her food everyday it will help the coat.
