You need to teach your puppy "leave it", and very strongly enforce it. The puppy needs to understand that the cat is off limits, so have some sort of deterrent that really gets that message across. It's completely doable, Ghost is pretty good with our 2 cats. You just have to be firm (not mean) and consistent for it to sink in with the puppy. Also, give your puppy plenty of other things to do. Lots of good toys, training sessions, and exercise. Just remember if you're taking the pup on walks, no more than 5 minutes per month of age. You'll get there, I promise. And in the meantime, we're here to help Smile

Thanks for replying Yeah we do walk her every chance we can and she is crate trainned for sleep at night. I have raw hide bones for her teething but Ive been told to tell her no , stick her in a room right after and wait a few minutes. But it seems to be doing worse we dont hit her and ive tried yelping like a dog to show her no aswell any other ideas that may distract her she doesnt bite us or my 6 month old son so Iam not sure why shes biting the one cat the older cat she also leaves alone. Would it be because they are both babys by chance?

Is your other cat Playing back?

Tika mouths my cat all the time. She will put his whole body or head in her mouth just to get a rise out of him. He then chases her down the hall as she hides, ducks, or covers.

I'm not saying you should let it progress, or get worse. I'm just letting you know it isn't always something terrible. Especially if they are both babies I would assume they are just playing or trying to figure out how they can safely with one another.

If your cat is a runner though that is an all together different problem. Running stimulates a pred/prey reaction and should be stopped right away.

That being said chasing or biting the cat as a puppy was a big NO NO in our house. We would place Tika in time out when ever it happened, for us it worked well. Tika hates being in Time out and tends to listen after words.

Another thing we always have is an escape for the cats. There is an area of our house our dogs are not allowed unsupervised. The cats can freely go to that area when they have had enough and they know it. Having an escape is always something you should have when dealing with prey driven animals.

Become the voice of the cat. If you don't like something that is going on Step between (and that is really all you should have to do is step) them and grant your cat space by walking towards your dog. As your dog backs up they should eventually sit and or relax in some other way. When that happens walk away.

If you keep at it the dog should start to realize that you are protecting the cat, and in turn the cat is VERY important to you.

My Male cat quite honestly rules the animal kingdom in my house. He doesn't run, he's grumpy, and he's always looking to enforce his role when he feel the girls have stepped out of line. They give him a wide berth.

It just takes time and commitment to make the problem stop or go away.

~Chris~

As usual Chris has given some amazing advice. . . I definitely second the escape route for the cats and establishing the cats as being higher up in the pack.

That said, I would add that you should keep an eye out for mixed signals. Cats and Dogs speak different languages so to speak. Watch for behavior from the cat that the dog might be interpreting as initiating play and vice versa.

For example, when our cat Macy is irritated with Saphire she will bat at her with her paws and if it gets really bad with claws. Saphire thinks this means that Macy wants to play. But it is really just a defense mechanism for Macy. So Saphire had to learn that this meant no in cat.

If you see these kinds of behavior just redirect one or the other so that they learn that the behavior doesn't mean play.

Hope this helps and good luck.

Well usually the dog will chase him and then he does a few swing lexi then sticks her mouth around him but it never looks aggressive. Somtimes he chases her but iam not sure if she gets to playful and goes to far and makes him whine or if shes trying to use him as a "chew toy" he doesnt ever seem injured badly or any marks left and the cats do have a seperate area for them. I will try your suggestions thanks alot everyone!!
