| My husband and I came across a two year old female husky who was in dire need of some healthy TLC.
We brought her home just a few hours ago, she is clearly malnourished (ribs, spine and hip bones showing from lack of weight). But she doesn't let that show her down, our Mya is full of personality and interest in the world. She has taken a real liking to my husband and myself already. Though introducing her to the dog we already own is proving to be interesting.
And we'll be taking her to the vet ASAP but I was hoping to get some advice on diet, training tips, and anything else you think I might need, from everyone here for a new husky owner with a very special girl.
I'll be taking pictures tomorrow of her, though I hope she won't break too many hearts.

| There's actually a thread similar to your situation on here about a husky taken in (I think he was a foster that may help) and how malnourished he was, I can't post it because I'm on my phone, but maybe try and search around there are tons of great information on here, also I can't wait to see your pooch! |

| Just a quick update on our new little girl. =)
Even though its only been a day and a half Mya's energy has practically doubled from her steady diet. Though her attempts to play with our toy sized Emma is still being returned with fear as they try to figure out how to handle each other. Mya is proving to be just as much of a sweet heart as I thought she was, always wanting to curl up on the couch with my husband or I. It still hurts my heart to look at her with how thin she is and the ring around her neck from the wire runner her previous owner had put her on then 'didn't realize' it didn't grow with her. =/ And she still has some small aggression towards others when it comes to kibble, from her history of having her fight her larger kennel mate for what food they were given. So this has lead us to giving the two girls different feeding times in different locations of the house. I am a little worried about her hips, she moves fine but her sitting is always slow and methodical.
On a lighter note though, her favorite treat seems to be some crushed ice mixed into her water bowl. And I've found she is very camera shy so i'm working on getting some not blurry pictures of her. |

| She looked much more nervous in the pictures from the first night and now. Lucian is a bit nervous on car rides, and always hangs his ears lower, lol. Thank you for rescuing her! |

| Wow. How could you not fall for that face! So much emotion in her eyes! Her condition makes me want to cry, but I'm so glad you saved her. She will be a different dog in a few months! |

| Time for another update!
Mya walked away from her food bowl today while there was still kibble remaining, I was so excited I think I scared her a little. She is already showing signs of improvement in knowing when she is actually full.
I have also been noticing something odd when it comes to the interaction between our two dogs. Mya and Emma for the most part ignore each other most of the time unless outside. Once outside all Mya wants to do is play with her smaller companion. But on the opposite end when we are inside and Emma attempts to jump up to sit with us or when we have the girls follow us Mya has to be right there with her, to me it almost looks like she is trying to herd the smaller girl. There is no aggression in Mya's actions, though I do get the feeling it is an act of possession or domination. Any advice or input?
Also, another thing I am worried about is how often I find Mya panting. We keep our home relatively cool, in the low seventies or high sixties for the most part and she has a ready supply of water at all times. I'm not sure if this is from her excitement level or anxiety of some sort. So far I haven't seen any connection in the instances where this occurs.
Mya also has gotten herself a mini fan club in my local community because of her gentle attitude and overall appearance. Though I am still hoping to keep her as a permanent member of the family. |

| It does sound like she may be trying to dominate the smaller dog, trying to claim you guys as her's per se. But I'm not too sure, I only have one dog.
As to the panting, Karli does it sometimes after she's run around and been outside or on a walk. Or drank a huge amount of water lol. She could be very out of shape just by looking at the condition she was in. |

| Thanks for rescuing her! As the dad of a rescued husky myself I know that you'll get no greater love than that from a dog you rescue, and husky love is tremendous. |

I really would not worry about the panting, my almost 3 year old female husky pants a lot. She was having problems waking up at night with coughing I have the vet check her out they did a X-ray and determined her heart was okay but she has some asthma in her lungs I believe this is why she pants so much. Your Mya could have some seasonal allergies. |
