Hi Everyone....

For those that have their dogs microchipped with HomeAgain services how does it work?

I just got back from Banfield with Meeka who got spayed and chip. Banfield vets did not advised on anything about setting up/registering the chip with my info.

How do I go about it?

I am at HomeAgain's website and its charging me $17.99, I thought it was free?

When I try clicking on the "Create Online Acct" which is a different link from registering, it tells me the chip # is invalid while the other link ("Register" despite same website reads it.

Does it take 24-48 hours before their database gets updated?

I had to go to the website Karli's chip was through and register the chip first then create the account. I know, I was confused at first too. But my vet gave me clear instructions, maybe you need to call your's and ask them?

You only need to register it to yourself if you want to be contacted directly. If Meeka gets out, and gets scanned, the facility will call homeagain, and they will tell you that that lot number that that number, was sent to the specific Banfield that chipped her. The original facility will call that Banfield and Banfield will give them your contact info and get her home that way. To bypass all that, you can register her directly to you. Either way she gets home. One way is free, the other costs money.

Got it, so as is, I don't have to do anything since HomeAgain will contact Banfield and they will call me despite not entering any if my info on HomeAgain's website?

Just want to make sure I understood your message correctly.

Hi I have Home Again on all three of my dogs! With my first two the vet registered it for me with Loki he was given an AKC chip, I did not register with them instead I chose to register with Home Again. You can do that with any type of chip, it doesn't matter. All you need is the microchip number. So I went to the Home Again website, paid the fee and registered Loki's chip with Home Again. At the same time I also paid for a stainless steel home again collar tag with the microchip number on it. If your dog was chipped at the vet chances are they are taking care of registering his number, but call first to check that!

I just got Home Again. I waited a few weeks before I went online to get the account started. I put his chip number in then it asked me to create a profile for him. I made my own password and contact info ...some info was in already from the vet registering it. I was not sure if I needed to do it or not so I just did. It never asked for payment.
Maybe try again so the vet has time to register the chip.

With mine I paid the fee to register my girls in my name. It gives you a whole profile and place to put a picture of your dog and they'll send out alerts if you tell them your dog is missing. But it will ask you to pay again in a year if you want to keep the fancy profile. I choose not to. If my girls' chips are scanned it will still give my info, I just don't have fancy profiles or the option for homeagain to send out alerts. I think you have to pay that one time fee though to register the chip and then from then on your info will show up if the chip is scanned. I know I had to pay to register my cats who have Avid chips. I thought the shelter did it and found out 3 yrs later that I had to register them! lol.

I put a picture of Nanook up and it didn't ask me for a fee. HHMM
Maybe the different vets do different levels..thats all I can think of. I paid $38 with 1 free year...maybe that included a full membership that first year where I can put in his picture.
