| Subject: does Maya look skinny? Thu Apr 18, 2013 12:45 am | |
i'm just wondering if Maya looks skinny to you all. she will be 5 months old on the 26th of this month. when petting her i can fell the notches on her spine so i'm wondering if i should be feeding her more. right now i feed her 1 1/4 cups in the morning and 1 1/4 cups at night for a total of 2 1/2 cups a food a day. i feed her Merrick food and she does well on this food. when i feed her she gobbles it up like there is no tomorrow and then goes looks in Zoƫ bowl to see if she left any. here is some pictures of her, if you need better pictures let me know sorry for the blurriness she wouldn't stay still thanks

With my untrained eye ...she just looks like she is in that awkward phase. Sheba is still looking pretty awkward and someone commented today on how "skinny" she is. She's even skinnier (not by much) then yours. I think she looks good! And so pretty might I add.

If you're nervous you could always add an extra half a cup a day. They seem to self regulate more than other dogs and most likely if she's full she'll stop. And if you notice she's gaining too much weight you can always cut back. Or maybe add an afternoon snack of a half cup. But, I agree with Sheba&Kennedy, she looks like she is in that awkward phase where she's shooting up. I didn't notice she was a piebald before. Very cute!

She looks good to me, Sophie was really skinny for a while (could see and feel ribs and hip bones) but she filled out eventually.

thank you! yea she was in a litter of 5 and they all were piebald, 4 girls 1 boy, i had second pick out of the littler and she was the 2nd one i seen and that's all i needed. never looked at the other 2 girls. the boy was already spoken for so i didn't look at him much but he was closely marked like Maya but was black and white instead of multicolor (may iss silver, white and light and dark grey, hoping she doesn't change colors on me) like maya. - MayaAndSophie wrote:

I'm not a dog dietician, I only play one on T.V., but I think from the picture she is filled out about where she should be. So many dogs in U.S. are over fed and over weight that the dogs of a more proper form seem skinny (my opinion based on my vet). However, I might be more concerned about the "out-of-focus" problem, if left unchecked this could lead to a very crummy scrapbook!

When I'm judging if a dog is skinny or not, I feel their spin. If I can easily feel their vertebrae then I consider them to skinny. She doesn't look skinny though, just like a puppy. She's cute!
