Thats a husky for you! They are very much known to change so many different colors. He does look red/ gray ... Who knows what color he may end up being. Mine is right in the middle of changing some weird colors. Its blowing my mind how much she has already changed.

I'm going to say red, as the dark red adult coat comes in and the puppy wool starts to puff up they look very odd colors. I'm seeing it a lot in the face of my red girl Enya- She'll be dark red when she's done like her daddy

I think the other thing that makes me lean more red than gray on your pup is the liver colored pigment. Grays have black pigment, not liver-

Looks a lot like Denali when he was a pup- I'm going to go with gray especially since your dog has black pigment. Ever imagine this- would end up like this?-

My prediction is that link will be grey and white. How dark will be interesting to see. If he ends up more on the wolf grey side or the silvery grey side. I've seen a lot of greys that have that buff/reddish color on their heads when puppies, then completely lose it.

| So you still call a coat with patches of other coloring gray? I'm so intrigued by the whole coloring of them.
Pippa's coat is weird. She appears to be gray/white from a distance, but up close it looks like her undercoat is most cream aside from her legs and fluff on her butt. But when you look at her guard hairs they are split, gray/white. She's an oddball. |

Very interesting changes Lani. Link is definitely grey/white, officially I suppose. The black streak on his back is lightening for sure and the sandy red on his head is darkening. I hope his head doesn't lose that color, I really like it. His widow's peak has gotten sharper too

About the 5th paragraph down it discusses banding on individual hairs and how that factors into defining coat colors. Also interesting is the dilution gene. A gray and white is a black and white with dilution. It also discusses distribution, as in splash coat and piebald and what not. I'm fascinated with the genetic aspect as well. I find it interesting that in both people and huskies red is recessive.

Unfortunately be prepared for that color to go away, you may retain it in areas as buffing, but not as pronounced as it is now. You can see Denali retained some buffing on the rear and shoulders is all that remains of that color. The stripe will fade as you head into what I have learned it as 'puppy wool' phase, they almost lose all of their color, then it comes back vibrant a bit later. Look how light the girls were at around 4 months- Look how vibrant they were at 8 months- Now at 11 months starting to lighten again due to undercoat/puppy coat getting ready to let go

Noted, thanks Lani. I have been wondering about this in light of upcoming blowings twice a year. He started shedding a bit about 3 days ago and it mostly seemed to affect the black stripe. Not a blow for sure, just some of the longer, isolated puppy hairs.

Are the girls litter mates? They look different in some ways, but their faces are very similar.

Yes they are litter mates- They have their similarities, but more differences than similarities....now more so with one being in full winter coat still and the other completely naked, but beyond that even very different.

Enya (red) grew in a very plush winter coat that is starting to tuft up like it's ready to go. She's a little bulkier right now in body and bone as well, she hasn't gone into her next growth spurt and if she is it's happening very slowly. Kenna (gray) hit a rapid growth spurt and blew coat. She was naked within 3 days and looked like she was on stilts. I feel like putting food in front of her 24/7 but I know it's just a phase, she's solid as a rock and has a nice amount of weight to her still, just stretched out more. Gotta love the puppy uglies!
