Hey all
I'm posting these in hopes of seeing if you think this is appropriate play behavior between my 2 huskies.
At any of these points should I intervene?

looks like normal play to me.. my boy pup used to do that when he was little (grab the neck and yank).. If anything was wrong there would be noise with growling and agression. if any dog was hurt there would be a yelp.. i think they just love each other alot

I would say not at all . In the first video, you can see how relaxed your older girl? is from her just laying on her back with her tongue hanging out. If your older one had had enough of the pup, she would have him know. (I don't know if your pup is a boy, so sorry if he isn't lol). They are just having a good time, husky style .

Looks like your older one is enjoying the neck scratch.


They will play much rougher. Typically one will let the other know when it's gone too far.

Let them play.

Loose, wiggly body language, lateral movements, and laying down are all signs of good play.
Dogs that are ready to kill each other are going to be more stiff, front and back movements, and certaintly arent going to lay down.

Huskies play rougher than most. We cant let the huskies at work play with the other dogs because other dogs are idiots and it creates instant and insane arousal.

Looks completely normal to me. My Meeka (Husky) and Cookie (Chihuahua mix?) do the exact same thing. Except that it looks a lot rougher when Meeka has a hold of the little one...only once in a while do I intervene due to the big size and weight difference.

Thanks everyone. I could tell from the body language of my older one that there was no aggression. But Just the way they grab the throat or skin on neck and shake makes me worry. If the puppy does this to another dog, it may not go over well.

That's why I recommend play dates; it's easier for younger puppies to learn how to play nicely then for an older dog to learn how to appropriately play. Kennedy has a tough time at the dog park, she is stuck in one way of playing and she doesn't understand why some dogs are okay with her and some dogs aren't. Puppy play dates are amazing for that.

Maggie plays like that. Normal to me. It isn't something I worry about.

They are being super calm compared to my puppies. My puppies practically kill each other.

Ya, your older husky is and seems very gentle while playing. Just wait til the youner one gets older...then they will actually play harder...almost like they will kill eachother! But it's all normal...you just gotta let them play. If one hurts the other they will learn from it! Mine have!!
