1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

Are there such a thing. I have heard and seen websites featuring giant Mals, 150+ lbs, but never giant Huskies. I am asking this because our 9 month old pup is at 82 lbs unofficially, meaning using the bathroom scale, and still growing. I am wondering if he will hit 100 lbs before he stops growing. Everyone comments on how big he is compared to other huskies. So is healthy 100 lb Husky possible?

I think a poorly breed husky will be on the large size. My son has a adult husky about 7 years old and he weights 100 lbs he is rescue from a shelter. I think he is poor breed. I have not seen him being he lives outside of chicago. I couple of people on here have rescues that are on the large size maybe they will pop and give you some insight..

Short answer is no. AKC breed standard maxes male huskies at 60 lbs fully grown, and anything beyond that is outside of breed standard and considered a fault, or the result of a very poor diet. Assuming you feed your pup properly, and he maintains a healthy build relative to his overall size, it is safe to say it comes down to genetics.

"Giant Mals" are the work of unethical breeders who bred the dogs to make them more "exotic" (aka to try to turn a bigger profit), and have no real regard for the overall health and well-being of the dogs they are producing. AKC breed standard for male mals is maxed at 85lbs, and females at 75lbs. Unfortunately, many many Mals exceed that standard because of careless breeding for profit.

With all due respect to you and your pup, if he is already that big, he may (probably) have/has at least some malamute in him, and/or was not bred by a breeder of reputable merit. Of course, this does not mean he can't be an exceptional, loving dog. But it may mean you breeder was less than ethical or honest with you, and you may have to deal with some latent health issues down the road. One of the most common health defects in giant mals is premature joint degeneration.

I have always fed Kodiak top quality kibble as well as raw. I agree with you that the breeder we got Kodiak from was not truthful with us and I have thought that maybe he does have some Mal in him which would explain his large size. I am worried that much farther down the road, his size could cause him health problems.
