PostSubject: Re: Diahrea & Projectile Vomiting!   Diahrea & Projectile Vomiting! - Page 8 EmptyFri Mar 11, 2011 2:13 pm

Yay for Kody! Melissa, it is totally normal for dogs to have larger stool volume on The Honest Kitchen. THK contains a lot of veggies and fiber which ultimately means more poop. I'd say that the biggest down side to THK is the size and frequency of BM's. When we fed grain free kibble our sibe had 1-2 small, rock solid BM's per day. On THK he had 2-3 large, not so firm BM's per day. The stool volume increase on THK happened for all my dogs, not just my sibe so it is the food. And I will say that on THK my dogs do well on it and their stools are all formed and "solid" but they do often fall apart when you try to pick them up and most of the time they are nowhere near as firm as kibble or raw poops.

Kody is probably ready for an increase in Embark. I would take him up to a daily amount of: 1/2 cup of Embark with 1/2 lb or 3/4 lb of beef and 1/2 cup of carrots. See how he does on that. I'm glad to hear he's gained some weight just keep an eye on it to make sure he's not gaining too rapidly, keep it slow and steady.

Hi Girls!

His BM's are out of control today! Still the same mount of firmness, but he's gone A LOT. I did increase the Embark to 1/2 cup as of last night and this morning. He's pooped like 6 times as of last night! Each poop has like 3 medium sized "parts". He woke me up 3 times last night because he had to go. Geez!

I'm totally watching his weight since I'm paranoid because of how much weight Mya gained after we got her spayed. He gained the 4lbs in a matter of I'd say a month and 1/2. He's also a lot taller and growing like crazy so I'm sure that's part of it.
Wow, did I mention how much poop is coming out of this doggie? lol!

That's so crazy! I guess I'm so used to small grain-free poop and then raw poop. I couldn't imagine my dogs going 6x a day!

I'm glad to hear his BMs are still ok!...but 6 times?? Holy crap! (get it?)

The most Ginger has ever gone was 4 times...or maybe 5 when I first started to get her back on track...now she averages 3 times.

Wow that is a bit excessive. How much meat and carrots is he getting in addition to his Embark? I am glad to hear that he's at least still got formed stool, that's a huge plus. Hope you get more sleep tonight!

ughhhh girls!!! I'm so mad at Kody!!! This morning while his food was rehydrating I had Myas Blue Buffalo on top of the stove. I walked to the yard to make sure that she wasn't up to anything and in those 20 seconds Kody jumped up and ate half of her food! He's apparently tall enough already to reach!!!!

OF COURSE he just pooped and it's back to diarrhea! Diahrea & Projectile Vomiting! - Page 8 85993 Diahrea & Projectile Vomiting! - Page 8 85993 Diahrea & Projectile Vomiting! - Page 8 85993 I feel so bad for leaving it there! But I honestly didn't think that he would jump up for it and that he would actually reach since it was pushed all the way back!

Oh no!
Hopefully he will work it out himself. It may take a full 24 hours. Since he was doing well with THK and raw ground beef, I think you can just give him what you have been, but just stay with the portions of beef and THK like you have. He should get back on track. Val may have a better approach, but now that you know he can counter-surf, you need to watch him or not leave any food on the counters.

Hopefully, he'll work himself out within the next 24 hours.
Keep us posted.

Thanks Claudia! I really didn't think he could reach yet, but I moved it back either way and he still got to it! He eats so fast that he gulped it down! I just fed him his normal amount of THK and beef (I'm now only giving him carrots as treats). I hope he gets back on track soon! =(

Yeah I'd just resume his normal feeding schedule. It may take a day or two for him to get back on track but hopefully it'll work itself quickly.

Kody is better today. For the past 2 days he's been having one regular BM and then a loose one or vice versa. Today so far they've been back to normal. He has a branch/leaf eating issue every time he's in the yard. I spend the entire time chasing after him, but he always ends up eating one or two because I couldn't catch up to him. In his last BM there were little pieces of branches so I'm not sure if the branches is what was holding it together or not. I try to pick them all up, but they seem to always be falling!

This doggie IS NOT EASY!!!

Sometimes I think I want a puppy so I can choose color (as I am partial to the grey color on Sibes) but I hear stories like yours and I'll adopt what's out there that are leash trained, housebroken, and know basic commands to bypass the puppy years!

yeah, it's not easy! I think it's worth it though. They're so cute! I would have adopted, but with Mya's attitude we needed to get a puppy. She would not have done well at all with an adult dog coming into her home Rolling Eyes

Yay, glad to hear his BM's are getting better! Yeah, I hear all the puppy horror stories and it reminds me of how much a love adopting adults. Laughing I live out my puppy dreams vicariously through others...only without the hassle. Wink

Speaking of adopting...
There's a 3 year old male, all white, in our rescue....thinking about it...what's nice is that we could foster him with the option to adopt. And if we don't adopt him, we just foster until he finds his forever home. But if for some reason Ginger and Dante do not get along while we're fostering, we place him another foster home. I'd hate for him to keep moving foster homes, so we'll want to make sure Ginger and Dante get along.

(didn't mean to go off subject on this thread...sorry)

Dante is about a year younger than Ginger; he's 3 and Ginger is 4.

There's another all white male, Koda, and sounds almost like Dante, but Koda is a little timid around some men, and Koda is 5. Dante needs a little work walking on a leash, but other than that, Dante and Koda sound almost the same as temperment.

We haven't met either Dante or Koda...we're still 'thinking' about getting a second....haven't decided yet. Smile

DO IT Smile I'm sooo jealous! I love the all-whites! I was hoping our "Hailey" would be an all white, but now that we have Hailey in our lives, clearly color doesn't matter Smile Wouldn't have any other dog!

I've always been partial to the Grey, but we LOVE Ginger and wouldn't have it any other way either!

If it was just me, I'd be fostering Dante or Koda by now! I think JD doesn't want to disrupt the bond we have with Ginger. But when Sully came into our lives, JD seemed to bond with Sully pretty quick!

We'll see...JD needs to be 'all in' before I set up a meet/greet with either Dante or Koda...and I don't think he's quite there yet.

Well JD seemed to be loving S&J and he could see how well they work in a pack, maybe a hike soon well really set his mind that two work and he does need a "male" around!

I think JD really really likes Jack! He likes Sierra too! But I do think he'd enjoy having a male Sibe around....when Sully was around, he bonded with Sully SO fast, where it took a while longer for him to bond with Ginger.

We had someone come to give an estimate on putting a doggie door to the backyard. And JD really wants one for Ginger to go in and out as she pleases. I told him, 'We don't need one for Ginger, but if we foster Dante or Koda, we'll need it, and I'll even pay for it!' LOL!
