| Okay so this is what happened.
Sheba and I were laying on their king size dog bed in the living room and Kennedy was on the couch above us. My boyfriend left to go run to the gas station, so Sheba was getting up to go to the door. As she was getting up, Kennedy was starting to jump off the couch. It all happened so fast, I don't know who went for who, but they went for it. They were fighting above me and I pushed them off of me. Kennedy had a hold of Sheba's throat and Sheba was screaming..just screaming. It was probably the most horrifying noise I have ever heard come out of a dog. I had a hold of both of the scruffs of their necks but they wouldn't stop. I ended up slamming my elbow down on their snouts. I pulled them apart on either side of me and they both had that crazy eyed look.. They were baring their teeth at each other, peering around me. Their hackles were up all down their bodies and their bodies were completely stiff in my arms. I grabbed Kennedy and took her into the bathroom with me. After I felt like the tension was gone, I brought Kennedy back out. They pared off for a minute (both standing on their toes with their heads above each other, that whole deal) then it was over.
I'm pretty sure I know why it happened, but I want to get other opinions.
How do I proceed forward with the two of them? I'm at a loss right now. I'm really shaken up right now, and a little torn up too (got bit in the process, but nothing too bad). |

| Honestley, if they're fine now, they're fine. Keep an eye out for any stiffness, hard staring, lip licking, etc around each other. They probably fought because their arousal levels got too high and then their personal spaces were invaded by each other. Another reason could be resource guarding over you or the.boyfriend. Without being there, and knowing the dogs, its hard to say.
If it was just too much arousal too close, you can work on impulse control via obedience cues, so that they dont get aroused by the door. |

| I agree with Eric, if they are fine then I wouldn't invest anymore thought or worry into it. My Dalmatian and our Yorkie got into it ALL the time and still do every now and then. They've ripped their lips, k9 puncher's to the head, stitches, holes in the chest, ear split's, you name it! I've gotten bit and had scar's last well over a year and my sister has had one for almost 8 years now. I don't ever question why or invest any stress or thought into it. It's something that just happens and you'll learn to get over when it does. It does suck, but when you have multiple dog's, it's bound to happen. It may even happen in the future. Just separate them and wait for all to calm down and go about you're business like they do. |

The times that Asia and Mya have gone at it has been because they got excited for something. For example, going for a walk, somebody came to visit and they were saying hello, or playing in the yard. They've never drawn blood or anything since I've been right there to separate them. It is VERY SCARY, but after a few times I've learned to deal with it. I'll correct them, separate the one that started it, and after a few minutes let them be. Edit: Kody has never gotten into it with either, but that's because he's wuss and his life is ruled by the girls...lol |

| I would try to keep an eye on them both and look for signs from either of them in case they do go at it you may pick up on something. We had a member here where his girl was just a bitch and will attack if another dog gets to close to her "space". we all just try to prevent that from happening, other wise she is a total love bug to the humans! sorry your girls got into it i know its a scary thing to be a part of. _________________ |

| Thank you everyone . I was just a little stressed out after it happened and thought that I must be doing something wrong with them. I have noticed lately though it seems like Sheba has been guarding me from Kennedy. I was sitting on the cuddler chair and both girls had jumped up to put their paws on my legs for scratchies and I noticed Sheba was baring her teeth, licking her lips, and glaring at Kennedy. Now, I know that licking lips usually means a dog is stressed. So does this mean that she is just really insecure about her and mine relationship? Or is she just a bitch haha? |
