| I adopted Dee (short for Deandra) about 4 months ago. She is 2 years old. I adopted her from a guy near Albany that is in the navy and said he didnt have enough time for her. His roommate had a male Siberian from the same breeder but they were not from the same litter. I brought Dee home and the first few days were fine. I work a lot and would have to leave her for 4-5 hours at a time by herself then come home to check on her, let her out, and then go back to work. Lately, my boyfriend has been home during the day and working at night. So, she gets plenty of play time and activity and walks during the day now.
When we both leave to go somewhere, we have to crate her because she will go to the bathroom on the carpet while we are gone even if we take her out right before we leave. It seems that she does it right when she knows shes alone because it doesnt matter how long we're gone for- 20 minutes or 2 hours. She will not soil in her crate however.
At night shes been sleeping in the bed with us or on the floor next to the bed. This morning I woke up to a horrible smell and she had gone to the bathroom all over the floor at the foot of the bed!
I can clean the carpets, but at 2 years old I feel she shouldnt have as many accidents as she does. Id say some form of going in the house happens at least twice a week at this point.
My mother has always trained her dogs to ring a bell hanging by the door when they need to go out. This way she can hear them at night as well. I am thinking of trying to teach Dee this.
Any advice on how to correct this behavior? She goes out first thing in the morning, 3 times a day at least and once right before bed.
I hate that we cant leave her out of her crate when we leave the house. Any opinions or advice would be greatly appreciated! |

| Crating is actually a very safe option for siberians. They have knack for getting into things My female did this at first because she would get anxious. I really think Anxiety caused it. She's fully potty trained and I couldn't believe it was happening simply because she was fine right before we moved. I suggest sticking to the crate. Treat it like it is her den, she really won't mind it. |

| Since the previous owner didn't have time for her, she was probably not as well potty-trained as she should be and so you'll have to make up for that by starting again. When you take her outside and she goes, praise her like mad and make her think she's done the best thing ever.
A crate is really helpful in this, like Megan says.
Of course, all dogs can have accidents because of health issues so if that's the case, keep an eye on her in case she needs to see the vet. But most likely she wasn't properly potty-trained to begin with. |
