2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.

Hi!

I'm from Melbourne Australia; my partner and I have been thinking about getting a husky for the last 12 months or so. After a lot of reading, talking to breeders, and weighing things up, we feel confident that huskies are a good fit for us. We're hoping to bring home a pup later this year, after doing a lot of breeder shopping and finding one that is wonderful. We don't mind being on a long waiting list because it would give us plenty of time to make sure we had a cooling off period.

In the meantime, we decided to help our local rescue by taking in a foster dog. I have always wanted to take a rescue dog, and felt bad that we were considering a puppy instead, but we felt that with a 1yo, we wouldn't risk getting a dog with bad habits or one that is a bit of an unknown quantity. But we thought it couldn't hurt to foster one between now and getting our pup - that way we can still help the rescues out. Plus, it would let us "test drive" the breed. We were already pretty confident that huskies would be a good fit for us, but figured it would be good to try before we buy - and doing it this way, everybody wins.

Unfortunately our new charge is too amazing and we have decided to apply to adopt him! We'd still like to get a puppy later in the year, and figure that Chase, if we get to keep him, will be a good influence.

Chase is about 6; he is missing a front leg. He was mostly an outdoor dog and was surrendered because he broke out 7 times and the owner couldn't afford the pound fees anymore. We are fostering him as an indoor dog; when we brought him home, he curled up between us on the floor, and slept as if it had always been his home. He has excellent manners - waits for you to walk through doorways first, doesn't beg for food, asks to be let out, and is just generally a lovely dog. He sleeps at your feet and is affectionate but not smothering. He tolerates my 1yo, doesn't guard his food, is great with other dogs.. you name it, he's awesome.

He's the kind of dog that we wanted to train a future puppy up to be, so we figured it would be stupid to have that dog land in our laps and then let him go!

He does have a bit of selective deafness, he is determined to find a way to eat my (last, elderly) pet rat, he definitely tries to break fences down (we are taking steps to reinforce, but I'm here 99% of the time so he's mostly indoors anyway). Last night for some bizarre reason he stole into the spare room and peed on the spare mattress (thank goodness for waterproof mattress protectors).. but other than that he is awesome and I can't believe anyone could bear to let him go.

I hope we get to keep him - but if not, we will probably keep fostering in the meantime to help the rescue out, and keep looking forward to a pup later. Smile

So, hi! Smile

A Tri-pod!! How adorable!! I really hope it works out for you, he seems like a wonderful dog and it would be a shame for him to slip out of your grasps Wink . He is adorably beautiful and I hope it all works out for you!!

He sounds like a completely normal husky..gotta love that selective hearing!

Thanks! Fingers crossed that we can keep him.

Although, I swear - he was on his best behaviour until we agreed to adopt him, and then he peed on the mattress, chewed a baby toy, and tonight he indulged in some counter surfing! It's like he knows he's won us over and now he can let himself go.. Laughing

Trying to keep an open mind, just in case we're not accepted. Smile

lol. He must've heard you talking about it, sneaky guy.
I'm sure there will be some new behaviors as he gets really comfy at home.
Seriously though, that first pic? I just want to hug him, that smile Very Happy Korra and I are crossing our fingers (paws?) for your family too, do update with the situation!

Here's another pic, my son trying to play ball with him (and the much-beleaguered rat in the background)
