Forum Rules | 1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect. 2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff. 3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned. 4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule. |

| Take a look at the stickies under the training thread, there's a lot of good information to get started. Here's the one on crate training. https://www.itsahuskything.com/t918-crate-trainingBasically, you need to wait it out. When there's a lull in the barking or crying, then you can let them out. |

| I personally wouldn't have any dog out in a kennel at that age.
But I realise that I am just one person.
So how I would teach them the kennel is a good place, a nice place: Start by feeding her in the kennel every meal time. Do this for a while. Then start leaving her in there for short periods of time with a Kong or a foody treat. Gradually increase the time she is in the kennel, if you leave her with a foody item then she will learn that when she goes in the kennel good things happen. And eventually she will learn that at bedtime she gets a food treat and is left.
I have a dog with separation anxiety and whenever I have to go out, I lock him in a crate (he's destructive) with a kong - that way he learns that his crate = food and then he doesn't notice that I am leaving because he has food. Once he has finished with the Kong he sleeps - it's hard work getting into one of those. |

Often times people mistake Kennels and Crates as meaning the same thing when on the forum. I would assume this is one such case as I too wouldn't have a 6 week old out in a Kennel. To each their own though. To the OP - Either way the link and the info is spot on. Take a look around our training section or the link provided by Rhia for more info ~Chris~ _________________ Is this about the cake problem? | If we're talking about a crate, try giving the pup a treat as soon as they get in the crate. Do this for a while so they associate the crate with something positive. You want the crate to be a safe spot for the dog. As for the whining and howling, the pup is just scared of being pinned in and such. You just have to wait it out. It will stop, promise. |

| She whines and howls in her crate? Or out of it? Huskies are talkers, some more than others, you may have just gotten one who knows how to use her husky voice. Little kids do that. My cousin would drink out of my old lab mix's water bowl at that age. Also soil his pull ups over bushes on walks on purpose. Luckily, when he was bugging her, she's come find us and whine once to let us know he was getting into trouble again. |
