Training Kennel Question! Empty
PostSubject: Training Kennel Question!   Training Kennel Question! EmptySun Jan 13, 2013 4:47 pm

Hello
Since Yuki is my first dog in my life, I have a lot of questions to ask(even though I read at least 10 books about the dog..)

I have read many posts about training, and it seems like many people take their dogs to training kennel to train their dogs in right ways..
I just want some advice about going to training kennel to train my dog.

Is this good idea to take my puppy to training kennel and get some good training?

I'd love to hear a bit about this too. It seems I'm overlooking a part of kennel training myself.

Do you mean going to a trainer to get puppy training? If so then yes. Its very highly recommended to do this with huskies. I plan on taking Karli after she gets spayed. I know PetSmart offers puppy classes but its hit or miss with whether you get a good trainer or not. My vet actually gave me the number for a trainer here and another vet in town has a list of kennels that offer training. So its best to shop around and see what would be best for you and your pup. The classes will help soldify the bond between the two of you as well.

I strongly recommend attending some sort of training classes. I took both of mine to PetSmart for their classes and I have pretty good luck with Nikko's class. I liked the classes a lot and he learned a great deal, plus there were other dogs to socialize with. We were able to be in the same class for all 3 of them with a couple of golden retrievers so it was fun. But I wasn't that impressed with Yukon's class because there was only 1 other dog there and the trainer did not seem as detailed as he was with the first classes.

I didn't go to regular obedience classes with either of mine - delilah was pretty much trained when I got her and has great manners - Cato goes to shows, so he can't know things like sit - but we went to conformation classes and it has helped him so much. He is a dream on a leash thanks to that.

Yes!
Highly recommend!
Although it is important to keep the same commands with all members of the family once you get home.
My dad attempts to use totally different commands and then gets annoyed when Yogi or Scarlet wont do "as their told" Rolling Eyes
It confuses them and stresses everyone out haha.

Hah. My dad too, he always, always, runs around yelling "down" instead of "off" and Korra's like "um, why..?"
The other day he was making circles with his hand in an attempt to get her to sit. I'm not even sure how that came about..... Training Kennel Question! 1625187496

PostSubject: Re: Training Kennel Question!   Training Kennel Question! EmptyMon Jan 14, 2013 7:20 pm

Thanks all you guys!!
I went to Petco(only 3 mins away from my place) to bath my kitten, and there are dog training classes, which I did not know. The price was pretty fair, and the dog trainer has been trained dog for 17 years, and she also has dog trainer certificate from petco. My first plan was to take Yuki to a kennel called Hackers Creek Kennel, but its far from my place(it takes 30 minutes to get there..means I have to drive total 1 hour to take Yuki there and back to home). I will be very welcome to take Yuki to that Kennel if I have that much time.. but since I am college student(and 2nd semester of Junior year), I am very busy these days!!! my girl friend can take Yuki to there.. but she CANNOT drive. So.. If the trainer from Petco is pretty good with training and love dogs, I want to take Yuki to Petco.
I just want to listen some opinions from you guys because you guys know about trainings much more than I do.

I would sit in on a training class at Petco before you decide to go with it. I tried a training class at Petco, and I was HORRIBLY disappointed. The lady was to occupied with my Lhasa Apso Kloe's cuteness to actually train her and just kept stuffing her with treats. I got a refund after three visits. Petco's classes are expensive. A certificate through Petco isn't a real training cerfificate, just like a grooming certificate isn't really a grooming certificate. It just means they passed Petco's own specific training class.

I went to Petco, and see their training to one's dalmatian.. and the trainer do very good job than I have expected! She does train with treats, but all the dogs are trained by treat, but she seems like to know real training methods! so I will bring Yuki to Petco this friday!
